When I create a new administrator account under OS 10.6, there is a checkbox for "Allow user to administer this computer".  I have a few questions about this option:

  1. Why is this option necessary?  Since I chose "Administrator" in the "New Account" drop down menu, have I not already granted admin privileges to the account?
  2. Does this option grant additional privileges of some kind?
  3. This checkbox is available when I create a standard account.  If I check this option, it changes the standard account to admin.  Does this new admin account have the same permissions and privileges as if I had chosen to create a new admin account from scratch?

Yes you have, so the 'allow ' box is checked. It's not 'necessary', except to allow changing admin-standard & vice-versa

    No
