    Hi...

I am on celcom and having the same issue. Can confidently says is ip5 issue.

Using 3 devices iPhone 4s, android and iphone5.

At same area with 3g.. Only iPhone 5 goes to edge. And never come back. 3g signal just drop even when you surf on 3g for awhile then it goes back to edge again.

Doing quite well on ip4. Better on android and the best still I can lock 3g as preferred network.

On 6.1.3 and still the same stupid problem.

Same problem in Saudi Arabia.  Wife and her friend both have iPhone 5, and they sit beside other in the Malls and my wife can't get 3G but her friend can! How crazy is that? Her previous iPhone 4 worked fine. Also download speeds on iPhone 5 WiFi from Apple store agonisingly slow. My daughter and I both have Samsungs (Note and Galaxy 3) and our devices work flawlessly. I feel sorry for her. And I don't see any announcement or help from Apple to support the thousands of complaints on the Internet. That is sad.

For all its slick polished aluminum finish, it does not live up to expectations. Luckily working in Saudi money isn't an issue. I told her to throw it out and I will buy her a decent phone!!! I can't convince her yet because she loves her Apple stuff (our house is awash with Apple products!). But I know she is on the edge and won't tolerate much more of this phone as she is constantly picking up my Samsung Note. I hope someone at Apple sits up and takes notice and sorts this out soon, because its no fun coming home at night to a grumpy wife!

Looks like its something to do with cell coverage. At home I get between 1 to 3 bars for 3G and my iPhone 5 will be in edge. When signal is low it requires more battery to maintain the signal. So it drops to edge with 5 bars and give some Internet connectivity while saving battery. To test my theory I tried it within city limits where the coverage is high. My iPhone 5 immediately connected to 3G with 5 bars.

This seems to be the case with my iPhone 4 too. Though it connects to 3G it drops to edge when I goto check my email or just open safari. Does anybody else think this maybe the case?

I agree with Sharkie1...two iphone 5 phones....same network and same location...one has good reception and the other poor 3g signal reception...

Yesterday i packed up my iphone 5 in its box and I am sending it to the US for a change. I suggest everyone should do the same. iphone 5 is a pretty good phone...some of us just have lemons or factory defected ones.

For me the problem is after the 6.1.2. I cannot force the phone to get 3G back if the phone went to E except by restarting the phone.

Turning off the 3G and then turning it on will do nothing. But before the 6.1.2, turning off then turning on the 3G will get the 3G back.

Now, I need to wait maybe one minute, maybe two, maybe three and so on to get the 3G back!!!!!

Yes, basing on the experience of my wife's iPhone I think that the problem (software, I think) has to do with the signal strength and is in some way triggered by a too low signal.

I tend to agree with you. I have been browsing the communities and am noticing a common theme here. Its called Apple Support Communities, but there is in fact NO SUPPORT . It seems we are all left to bump into each other is if we were blind and someow we are left to find a resolution or workaround ourselves. Either that, or we get fed up of posting into a black hole. Its a dangerous game to play with disgruntled customers ...

Consumers have become highly dependent on their mobile devices for more than just making telephone calls. To be fair to Apple, they have pioneered these technological advances. However, a mobile device that simply looks good but is unable to conduct online communications efficiently in locations where competitor devices seem to work with ease, is not really of much use to anyone. Unfortunately I am pretty sure that this marks the end of the iPhone road for my family.
