    @merchantcman

    You sound exactly like me -- was looking to replace a 7-year-old Powerbook G4, 17" and was chomping at the bit when these launched last June.  Finally talked the wife into buying one about September-ish but was terrified by what I was reading on this and other threads. So I milked my 17" until about three weeks ago when the '13 refresh came around and the price dropped on the 512 SSD upgrades.  But I must say, until I hit the "Buy" key on the Apple Store page, I was more than a little worried.  I even tossed around getting the last gen MBP-non Retina to avoid this lottery.

    When I picked it up at the store I ran the Terminal command and my heart skipped a beat -- LG display.  I tried to run the checkerboard test in the store but the site was blocked.  For 13 days I ran every test I could through at it.  It was perfect.  The most amazing laptop -- and screen -- I have ever seen and used.  And none of the nightmarish problems so many others were having.  Well, I did have this annoying solid blue desktop return after every start-up, regardless of what I selected prior to shutdown.  A phone call to AppleCare -- solved.  I really feel like I "won" this lottery.  But it was absolutely no picnic.

    My CTO build -- 2.4 Ghz / 8 Gig RAM / 512 SSD which I had shipped to the Las Vegas Forum shops Apple Store.

    Another perfect LG here, so there are *some* out there ;) . (More details in my earlier posts.)

    I've run a number of different tests - even reran one of the checkerboard tests today (the marco.org one) for 10 minutes. No signs of retention. Perfect display.

    Week 46, November. Purchased mid-Feb. mid-2012. 15"/2.7/16/768

    As i mentioned before in this thread, i´ve also the LG SJA-2 panel. My rMBP build week is 9 (End of February/ Beginning of March). So far i could not reproduce any IR., even after i tried last week the checkerboard-test. Hopefully it will keep up like this. Anybody else out there with SJA-2 panel ?

    Yes. I also have this. In the meantime, Apple doesn't seem to give a crap. Actually, they don't want to believe me, and are (of course) saying that the problem isn't that bad - incredible since they haven't even looked at it, and that a screensaver will swiftly fix this problem.

    I think anyone with this problem should come here and write their complaint, since Apple seems determined to bury this issue. There's two other guys in my office with this issue, and four of us with a retina MBP (that is, 3 out of 4 MBPs are defect, broken, fubar, caput - and the one that isn't is the only Samsung screen MBP we have).

    I might just go Lenovo / Linux next time! Jesus what a f*cked up situation!

    Was this over the phone or genius appointment? They should replace it if you have a genius appt.

    The image retention only occurs on some LG displays I am advised. It seems most mbpr which were brought out last year such as the demos in the store have IR issues.

    Also to add.. If you play around in terminal in the apple store- be sure to turn off wifi as the apple staff gets alerted if someone uses terminal.

    I just purchased a MacBook Pro 15 inch Retina a week ago and I just ran the command in Terminal and got this:

    Color LCD

    LP154WT1-SJA2

    DCN303602G1FDRTA4

    My serial # is not supported by http://www.appleserialnumberinfo.com/Desktop/index.php

    Is this burn in issue still a problem with such a new model ?

    From what I can tell it seems as though the sja2 models are lg's under the radar manufacturing fix for this issue and from now on all newly produced rmbps will have sja2 displays and the matter is "solved". that's my hypothesis, might be too early to tell but I have yet to hear of a sja2 having problems.

    I also have an LG LP154WT1-SJA2 display. So far, no issues. I haven't been able to find anyone with an SJA2 display confirming the presence of IR/ghosting on the SJA2. Perhaps it is indeed a revised, fixed model. Hopefully it is! My LG SJA2 display is absolutely beautiful!

    I purchases my Macbook Pro Retina 15" from an Apple Store in March 2013.

    Got a Samsung Display

    LSN154YL01001

    DLM2495068HF49HBX

    Type this in Terminal to find out what display you have...

    ioreg -lw0 | grep \"EDID\" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

    LSN = Samsung

    LP   = LG

    Tested, No Image Retention Issues (www.mitchmalone.name/retina-test/)

    For some people saying the LGs might have better Colors and Contrast. Try calibrating your Samsung Display (SysPref/Displays/ColorTab/Calib), most of the setting were off on my Samsung. After calibarting everything looks way better, amazing blacks, and good contrast.

    Anyone have a comparsion between the new LG SJA2 and the Samsung Display?

    You and humrush, should refrain from confusing people with you wishful "hypotheses". THERE IS ZERO EVIDENCE THAT ANYTHING HAS CHANGED. The fact that you don't have IR at the moment means ZERO when considering people are showing up with IR that bought their rmbp's last August and September. So if you bought one now you could theoretically be getting IR next fall or maybe later. You don't KNOW anything different. So stop the wishful thinking that only serves to confuse new people and turn these SJA2's into something they're not. When Apple says they are the FIXED update then we'll know.

    I've got ME665 model(2.7/16/512). Screen is Samsung, SSD - SanDisk. Even before SMC update I haven't encountered any fan issues. No issues for screen either. Let's hope it'll last long.

    @DomiDom: Well I dont think Apple will say it's fixed as they havent said it's broken in the first place

    Since up to now nobody having the SJA2 models have reported here yet (and these were distributed to people since January which is already 8 weeks ago) I think one can start assuming that these SJA2 models indeed fix the LG problems. And why not? Should only Samsung be able to deliver IR-free retina display? I dont think so sir.

    So let's wait a couple of weeks more and see if anybody having a SJA2 display reports back in this thread saying they have IR. Up to now I haven't seen one. (And all the ones having SJA2 AND IR should write back here)

    But it is good feedback. It confirms that it doesn't seem to be happening to all LG screens as suggested by apple.
