If i reset my Tme Capsul to the original will i be able to deleteall the old saved data in the capsul.  I have no need to keep the old data any more and want to start a fresh with a new blank Time Capsul.

They are entirely different things.. You factory reset to remove router and name settings..

You erase the hard disk in the airport utility to delete the old data.

Be warned any more than a quick erase takes several hours.

Click the erase and you will see the options

    Click the security method.

Zero out data is a full low level format.. takes several hours per TB.

A 35 pass erase will take about a month.. if you actually have the ICBM launch codes stored in the TC, put an axe through it.. otherwise a single pass is all any sane person will use.

Thank you very much.  While I am erasing the drive does the router still operate?  As you can see i do not know much about all of this.

Yes, the router side is fine.. quick erase takes like 1-2min.. it just deletes the file table.

That is enough unless it is giving you disk issues. The only fix to that is usually a new TC or disk inside it.

Again, Thank you.  Now can I reset the router side while I am doing the erase?

I ask this last question because when I try to Reset the options under Base Station are unavailable.

Why are you trying to erase and reset at the same time.. obviously you cannot do that, as the TC required to reboot.. if you are doing a one pass erase wait until that is finished.

If you want to reset and erase.. do the reset first then the erase..
