I live in Arizona. I was charged sales tax on an iBook download on iTunes. I thought you only pay taxes on a product that you buy in Arizona????

Arizona, as do most states, requires any retailer who has a physical presence in the state to charge sales taxes even on download or mail-order sales. Since Apple has stores in Arizona, they're legally required to collect sales taxes from any purchase being delivered in any way to someone in Arizona.

You were charged tax, because the government requires that you be charged tax.

Then you are ion the wrong place.  We are all itunes users just like you.

    Apple is not here.

" (FYI) There is no Federal sales tax. Only states have sales tax. When you buy something online from out of state, there is no tax charged unless the company has a location in your state."

Yes, I know this is genreally the case.  However, states have the authority to tax internet purchases if they choose

As RG said, Apple does not respond to posts in these forums. The only responses you will get are from your fellow users.

When you buy something online from out of state, there is no tax charged unless the company has a location in your state.

Or unless the state charges sales tax on Internet or mailorder sales even if the company does not have a presence in the state. There are a few states that do, I believe. But in any case, for your situation the issue is moot since Apple does have stores in Arizona, so you get charged sales tax by Apple for anything you buy from them. And also FYI, in almost all states you're legally required to pay sales tax regardless of whether the store is required to collect it at the time of sale. Few people ever do so pay, but it's in most states required by law.

    Regards.
