    very disappointed, what a horrible update. Mail app keeps crashing because of google account, when disabled/deleted, it doesn't crash. To make things worse, the gmail app also keeps crashing.

    reminds me when microsoft did the same with netscape a long time ago and got sued for monopoly.

    apple better watch out because this is rubbish!

    I have several friends whose Gmail accounts are working perfectly on their iPhone 4Ss running 6.1.2 or 6.1.3.

    I'm wondering if there's some specific folder setup that may be triggering it; stranger and stranger.

    I am having the same issue. When I open my mail app it's a blank screen then it closes. I've also had my batter life zapped - in an hour I have gone from 88% to 28% (I am on an iPhone 5). The phone is also constantly restarting on me, which is probably the cause of the battery drain. The update has effectively rended me without a phone for the whole day. Worst update ever!

    I am having the same problem. Interesting though is that my ipad mini and my iphone 5 both updated to IOS 6.1.3 without any problem and work fine. It is just my ipad 3 that is having the mail app problem. I tried closing the app, restarting the ipad several times. No luck. I then deleted the gmail and it worked fine. i need the gmail acct though so I tried to add it back on and the app crashed everytime. I restored my ipad 3 from the cloud and now the mail app and my gmail works fine. Very frustrating and wasted alot of time in the process though!

    Restore didn't work for me, but I'm glad it did for you.

    This happens to me as well on my 64GB 4S. Restore didn't help. Pretty crap update if you ask me.

    I was having this issue with my 4S using my Gmail email with the Mail app.  Downloaded the gmail app and had same issue (Issue being whenever selecting anything to do with Gmail the app would crash and take me back to the home screen) So I tried sparrow just to see if it would work didn't wanna spend the $3 in case it didn't work but it seemed to work fine and i'm able to check my email again.

    Full restore also solved it for me with my 64GB 4S... though I'm now more than a little disillusioned that Apple didn't notice this problem before releasing the latest update (Gmail isn't exactly an uncommon email account).

    I also tried Sparrow which worked fine except it seems to need a continual input of your password (a tad tricky if you have several gmail accounts with different passwords) - there may be a way round this though in the FAQs for the Sparrow app.

    But can it be good that I have to turn to an app designed by Google (i.e., Sparrow) because Apple have derailed their native mail app through an update? Wakey wakey ...

    That's because this is a very uncommon problem.

    Most people with Gmail are experiencing zero issues, so there's likely something unique to the accounts of those seeing this crash.

    Has anyone who's experiencing this opened a case with AppleCare yet?

    I was having the same problem with my iPhone 5, and didn´t want to restore.

    1. I deleted all my Gmail Accounts in phone settings.

    2. Then go to Mail, Contacts, Calendars, to add your accounts again. But instead of selecting GMail, select Microsoft Exchange.

    3.  Fill the details, and click next.

    4.  In that next page, enter...

          Domain: google

          Username: Your email

         And fill the rest of the details according to your account and click next

    5. In the next page, choose what to sync for that account. (ie. mail, contacts, calendars, and remiders)

    Then you are done... hope this works for you.

    Note: Setting your gmail accounts with Microsoft Exchange will drain your battery a bit quicker. The solution to this is to disable Push in Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Ferch New Data. And set to Manual the fetch schedule.

    My iPhone 5 64GB works fine after the update.

    My iPad 3 64GB has the issues with gmail.

    My Yahoo and corporate email through Exchange work fine however.

    I was able to figure it out with the help of an IT friend.  I actually had to "force" the Gmail account through the "Other" email option:

    This is what he had me do to get my Gmail account reinstalled on my iPhone 4s:

    Try this: Delete the Gmail configuration from your iPhone (yet again).  Add

    it back in.  But, this time, instead of choosing Gmail as the account type,

    choose Other.

    Additional information you'll need:

    * Type: IMAP

    * Incoming server:

    * Outgoing server:

    * Outgoing mail: authenticate (yes)

    * Account name: (your full email address, with the on the end)

    As for the Google Calendar, same thing:

    As for the Google Calendar, set it up this way:

    It's an old article, but the content is still valid.  Seems to match my

    phone config.  The Google Sync mention is the no-longer-supported option.

    * Username: (your full gmail address, with the at the end)

    * Use SSL (on)

    * Port 443

    Good luck to others with the same issue!  I hope this works for you like it did for me!!
