I sent my iMac to Apple store last Sunday and the Genius Bar staff saw my freeze and crash problem. The technician said he would fix this problem in a couple of days. I really hope they can really fix it within such a short period and they only charge me $42 labor fees. Now is 3 days passes, maybe they will give me a call before this Friday I think. Do u get back your iMac or still in the fixing process?

I just read that 10.8.3 has some graphinc drivers updates
qoute from the blog:
Since the release of the OS X 10.8.3 update last Thursday, we've been thoroughly testing Pixelmator on it. We can finally confirm that Pixelmator's biggest problem (caused by NVIDIA graphics card drivers) is now solved! For that, we owe a tremendous thanks to the guys at Apple and NVIDIA for listening to us and probably many other developers, and then doing something about it.
Go ahead, everyone, and download the OS X 10.8.3 update to your Macs!'
So it seems these NVIDIA graphics card drivers are updated,
can anybody confirm any crashes when running 10.8.3?

Well. It still doesn't work even under 10.8.3. I told the Apple store technician to upgrade to 10.8.3 this morning as iMac is still kept by them for fixing this issue and after I arrive the Apple Store and check that it still freeze and crashed under 10.8.3. The staff said maybe this new Nvidia graphic card upgrade is not for this GT 130 model, so it doesn't work.
My iMac has been fixed for one week and the Apple Store still cannot fix this issue. So they told me this morning that I have to replace a new graphic card (same GT130) for $292 dollars (Australian Dollars) including the labor fees. Well, I can accept this fee if they can really fix this problem.
How is everyone going on this issue?? Is there one figure out this problem ??? 10.8.3 does not work. You can ignore this upgrade.

I paid about the same to have a video card replaced - it did nothing for the problem, but the machine passed all the tests and it had failed some of them before. I haven't worked on my machine much under 18.8.3, but I think that there is a chance it will work now. It's a subtle problem and I think that some of it may be faulty hardware, though most of it is faulty software/firmware.
I'm curious to know if the latest iMacs have the same problem.
I have a new Macbook Pro. Until 10.8.3 google mail had annoying problems with graphics - whole sections would blank out quite often (in safari). It was still usable, but irritating. In 10.8.3 gmail works almost perfectly, just the odd flicker. So I think they've, finally, put a lot of work into this.

I think I may solve this issue. If you want to try please feel free to follow the instruction below:
1. Install a Mountain Lion 10.8.2 system.
2. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2384136?start=1215&tstart=0 , go to this website link and have look at what KrzysiuTurek say, should be the fifth one on that page. Read carefully what this guy say and download the Nvidia 10.6.2 Kext files. But pay attention!!!! Do not just install the files this guy recommends, please use the Kext helper B7 to install the following files, You can download the kext helper B7 from this page, have a carefully go through this webpage u will find this.
3. Remember you need to drag all the files I listed above to the Kext helper B7 and easy install it.
4. After you restart, you will find that screen moviments like moving around windows with the mouse sometimes goes with little flipping...not a smooth movement and you can't even open Launchpad from the Dock Icon, if you open it is really slow and like computer crash. But this problem can be fixed by the following instruction.
5. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3993919?start=0&tstart=0, Go to this website link, please follow what this guy says, and install XCode and the graphic tools for Xcode, after you open the Quartz Debug program, you will find the Quartz Extreme has already benn deselected, Please check the box again and Enable Quartz Extreme.
6. Restart the Computer.
Finally, you will find the computer even hard to freeze and crash without open the SmsfanControl.
BTW, the Apple Store Genius Bar staff are really rubbish. After I send my iMac to genius bar, they not only cannot fix this issue and keep saying that this is graphic card driver problem and this cannot be fixed even I replace a new graphic card for my iMac. I agree with them but they really *****.

Well I still have the same crashes under 10.8.3.
I tried your steps @youclavier on my 10.8.3, and unfortunately it failed to boot. Had to go into single user mode and restore the original kexts from /Backup\ Extensions.
Has anyone else had any success under 10.8.3 with different kexts?

So sorry about that. After I ran a lot of test, the solution I provided yesterday is not a perfect solution. It still crashes and freezes.
But today, after I do some research to fully understand how Apple's Kext files work, I try another solution, with this solution I already run my iMac for 6hours without any fan control software and keep turn my iMac off for 1 hours and turn it on again (because first time you enter into a fresh system the iMac won't crash and freeze no matter how you use it, so we need to turn it off and unplug the cord and replug the cord to test the iMac) and also, keep clicking the lauchpad and open a lot of Safari videos it goes very smooth and not causing any crash or freeze. I am not sure yet this solution is the perfect one. I think I need to test it for a few more days and I can tell. But if you don't mind, you can follow my new solution instructions below.
1. Install a 10.8.2 system. Download the 10.8.3 from apple website, and upgrade the 10.8.2 to 10.8.3.
2. After finish installing the system, use Kext Helper B7 (you should go to preference -> Security, to enable application can be opened from anywhere sources) to easy install the following files ( NVSMU.kext , GeForce7xxxGLDriver.bundle , NVDANV40Hal.kext) from 10.6.2 Kext files. Remember, only these three files I list, do not drag any other file. Nvidia Kext's from 10.6.2
3. After easy install, reboot your computer and your iMac should work fine!!!!!!
Let me know if this solution work for you or not. Hope this can help.

well I did just those 3 kexts and this time it booted up fine.
Interestingly the graphics response is noticeable faster - just clicking around & opening menus etc.
I will run it for a few days & report any change in crash frequency. Thanks for your research.

Cool. Glad to hear that. Did u download a 10.8.2 system to install and download a 10.8.3 combo update to upgrade 10.8.2? If u have any crash or freeze, remember to do this step. And then replace the three kext files.

First monitor full of glitches for running for 7hours happens just now under a really stressful graphic test. But interesting, only the monitor full of glitches but didn't freeze and crash. I could still open application and menu, hence, I press the power button for one sec and let the iMac to sleep, and then I hit the keyboard and mouse to awake the iMac and log on and everything works fine again. No more glitches... And back to normal status. So, I first time install a Smsfancontrol and boot the fan up, ODD, HDD AND CPU FAN. With fancontrol, no freeze and even no monitor glitch at all. So if you encounter freeze or crash, just install Smsfancontrol and boot up a lot to make ur iMac go stable.

Well, today i still have a screen freeze when I use Safari to watch HD 1080 video. But, after I reboot, I try to use Google chrome to watch this video. It works perfect.!!!!! Even I open five HD 1080 youtube video at the same time with chrome, it works totally perfect. After I use Safari to open again , it freezes again............
So, I realize that maybe this is not just the graphic card driver issue. It's also involves something with Apple's software. If it's graphic driver issue, the screen should freeze with Chrome browser. But Chrome works perfectly. Also, I install a Windows8 and Linux Fedora 18. These two system also works perfect. To conclude, is Apple's software and graphic driver s u c kkkkkkkkkks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, new record, not use Safari and Launchpad. Use Google Chrome instead of Safari, and use normal folder(finder) to open applications instead of Launchpad. No crash or freeze at all for 2 days. Even I open Photoshop, Xcode, Chrome, and Itunes playing music at the background. No sign for freeze and crash.
Conclusion, is Safari and Launchpad, these two applications have conflict with GT130 driver. It's not the graphic card over-heated problem. Chrome opens a lot of videos should be over-heated also, but chrome runs them so smoothly. Safari s u c k.....ss

I also tried using Chrome and Firefox. It doesn't happen as frequently with them as it does with Safari but it still occurs. In fact, on my iMac I get the graphic glitches on other applications, more prevalent in Safari but that makes sense since it is using graphics more.
I also don't believe that heat is the issue since I have left my computer powered off overnight and had the problem immediately upon startup before it even warmed up.
This is definitely, in my opionion, a software issue between MT Lion and the NVIDIA drivers.

Yes.. I agree with u. If u use chrome would freeze please go to my post before to replace three kext file with the 10.6.2 kext. After I replace them and avoid using Launchpad and Safari. I have not freeze and crash at all for a couple of days. Even I use Chrome to open a lot of 1080P videos at the same time and use Xcode and a lot of application open at the same time. NO freeze and NO crash at all... Just don't use LaunchPad and Safari. Everything works perfect!!!!!!

For me it seems that version 10.8.3 fixed the problems. I've been more than one week using it and no crashes with graphics artifacts yet. Even more, I've been playing a game for a while and, once I've finished, I've checked that the GPU temperature was quite high (more than 60 degrees), and the system went on working perfectly. Before 10.8.3. update, I always had crashes when temperature went higher than 60 degrees, so I used SmcFanControl to avoid that.
