Mar 26, 2013 7:46 AM in response to Puma-ITby erniefromraleigh,I looked at that thread and it is not really similar. This thread is specifically about the thunderbolt display not waking when the machine wakes from sleep.

Apr 3, 2013 8:08 PM in response to GooberGrape70by jaydisc,I've had the same issue with a 2011 MacBook Air 11". What I have found is that in these situations, unpluging the built-in TB cable, and instead connecting the two via a separate cable from the MacBook to the back of the TB consistently works. I'd like to know if that workaround works for others as well. Might help isolate the problem.

Apr 15, 2013 10:45 AM in response to GooberGrape70by CPTNAhab,Same problem here. Computer goes to sleep, external Samsung monitor connected via Thunderbolt port won't wake up. Have to unplug and re-plug Thunderbolt to make it wake up.

Apr 19, 2013 7:55 AM in response to GooberGrape70by reesd,The same problem started with me after I installed 10.8.3. I have a Retina connected over Thunderbolt to a Apple Cinema HD. When I wake the computer by hitting the space bar the Retina LCD wakes up but the Cinema HD does not. I have to unplug and plug in the TB cable again.
I am using a 3rd party longer TB cable though. I unfortuntely don't have an OEM TB cable I can try (at least not yet).

May 4, 2013 10:59 AM in response to GooberGrape70by edorah,I had the same issue as everyone else. Got a brand new ATD, hooked up to my Early 2011 MBP 15". Once the MBP went into sleep and I tried to wake it up, only the MBP will wake up. The ATD just showed black screen.
Called Apple Support today and they had me do the NVRAM and SMC set up. And it supposed to have fixed the issue. However I am not holding my breathe. I doubt it will last for long. The representative told me to monitor it for a few days and if it returns, take the display to the nearest Apple Store.

May 4, 2013 12:02 PM in response to edorahby ajpegg,How are you trying to wake it up?
I have found that it will wake up if you use a bluetooth device (which is connected to the Mac), or a cable keyboard which is connected to the Mac, NOT the TBD.

May 5, 2013 9:48 AM in response to edorahby Stephen Hanson, this works for me for about 5-7 days. Then it occurs again. My keyboard and trackpad, both Bluetooth, won't wake the TBD once is starts to stay asleep.

Mac OS XI had the same roblem for a while - and then with 10.8.3 it just went away... I now wake from sleep with my MBP in clamshell mode and simply tap my Magic Trackpad to awake all.
Hope others will find a solution...

May 6, 2013 2:26 AM in response to GooberGrape70by jaydisc,For unrelated reasons, I had to wipe and reinstall 10.8.3 on my Air over a month ago, and I haven't had the problem since.

May 6, 2013 6:52 PM in response to GooberGrape70by edorah,The problem is back again for me. It worked fine for couple of days and now its back again. I guess I can again try to reset the NVRAM and SMC. But its a pain. I will wait for a miracle to happen for a few days otherwise will reset the settings and try again.

May 6, 2013 6:53 PM in response to ajpeggby edorah,I have a Apple Keyboard which is connected to TBD and the bluetooth magic mouse which is connected to the Mac. Usually (almost all the time) I use the mouse. But it has now stopped working for me. So back to square one. Hate it.

May 6, 2013 10:48 PM in response to edorahby ajpegg,Try connecting the keyboard to the Mac instead of the TBD.
Touch the keyboard and give it at least 5 seconds to wake up.

May 8, 2013 2:52 AM in response to edorahby mirone, edorah,
Try keeping your keyboard to the Mac and trash the following plist or preference files.
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.AutoWake.plist
Don't worry, your system will generate new plist files to replace the old ones.
Please let us know if this works.

My system had the PowerManagement.plist file but did not have the AutoWake.plist file. Any suggestions?

Your suggestion seems to have solved the problem for me. So far the display is waking up on its own. Thanks!
