Interesting, I opened all the ports suggested by others on here, and with the latest update, Music now opens, and if I type 3 or more characters into the search box very quickly it seems to avoid the crash. But type slowly..... Yep, still crashing. Apple, please sort this ?

I am having somewhat the same exact experience with being able sometimes to type one, two or three letters quickly but come on Apple this is not Apple pie!!!

Please fix it and I have written bug reports and other things on this issue.

Having the same issues as everyone else. Not showing the full library and searching instantly crashes the app. Certainly not a case of "it just works."  In this case, it's more of an epic fail.

After spending 20 minutes trying to figure out a solution to the same problem everyone else seems to be having... I have success!!!!

On my iPhone I went into Settings > Music then scrolled down to Home Sharing. I had an OLD Apple ID logged in. After signing out the old ID and signing in with my current Apple ID, all my iTunes music showed up with corrected Album covers. I hope this works for everyone else.

    Good Luck!

    Hello adrianfmtx,

Well welcome back to earth. I hope your interplanetary trip to Neptune or wherever you have been was enjoyable.

Here on earth we have been dealing with this problem for many months while you have been away. The signing in, signing out really kind of assumes that you're always using your correct Apple ID.

Seriously I really got a kick out of your comment. I think the key will be now is will it last for you. Those of us that have been using this technique have found that at least once a day and sometimes several times during the day we have to sign out & back in again in order to get the full list with album artwork. But we generally have been finding that the search doesn't work that typing in 1, 2, maybe three letters and then wham the program crashes.

If you are able to just sign in this once and then a day or two or three days later you're still able to go to home sharing in iTunes then yes indeed maybe you have solved this! Also please check out the search function.

If you can report back later this week with your results that would either confirm that frequent signing in and signing out is necessary OR that perhaps you've made a breakthrough and we should all sign in with our incorrect IDs whatever they are and then sign back in with our correct IDs.

Again I hope you can accept my attempt at interstellar humor as I think sometimes these Apple discussion groups get way too serious. And unfortunately I don't have but my one Apple ID so I can't successfully sign in with another ID unless I create one which I guess I really don't want to do. Certainly hope this works for you.

Your Multiple Apple Id Disorder   (just kidding) may need a bit further explanation.

Are you suggesting that you used something @ icloud or @ me instead of an older ID?

Or have multiple @ with Apple? And were using a secondary instead of a primary?

Because I have only one single Apple ID that dates back 10 years, that was and is still used to make purchases at the Apple Store, iTunes Store, etc

For the rest, it just sounds like a log out / log in recommendation, which is a temporary fix at best for some.

I discovered that I am also having this issue between iTunes on Windows Vista & my iPad 3. I'm running the latest versions of iTunes & IOS.

Signing out on the iPad & back in is a temporary fix, like others have noted.

I have also recently had this problem.  To be exact, when looking at "home shared" music on my iPhone5 (music on my mini), nothing shows under artist, all songs appear under songs, and SOME albums appear under albums.  I logged out of sharing on the phone, then logged back in.  Everything appeared correctly!  I logged out and back in with the same name and password.  Don't know why, but that's what did it.  Logging out and back in on the mini didn't change anything.

This is still a mess - and try doing a search once you are logged-in to your shared account.  Likely after you type 2 or 3 letters of the search, Music will crash!

    Thanks for any feedback.

Good grief, Apple can be hard work sometimes.

"All" I want to do is hook my ipad up to my hifi DAC via USB and play music via home streaming.  The first problem is that Apple in their infinite wisdom have decided to change (in a recent software update) the maximum power output from the Camera Connection Kit from 100mA to 20mA.  So hardly any USB devices will work now.  Devices that used to work perfectly before are now useless following this "helpful" update.

So after much messing about, and finding a suitable powered USB hub (which I really didn't want or need), I have got around this and I can now get sound out of my hifi.

Delighted with my progress, I try home sharing again (which was working perfectly) and I find I have the same problem as everyone else - only 2 albums showing, all the artwork messed up, track names wrong etc.

Yes, the log out/log back in again trick temporarily fixes it.

But really Apple, this is becoming a shambles.  PC & Android land gets more tempting by the moment.

I tried that but no cigar. Also tried the logging out/logging in trick but that also failed to show some missing albums.  Then while in Settings on my iPod Touch I saw an option that was ON called Group by Album and Artist.  No idea what it does but I turned it OFF.  Now I can see all my albums as far as I can determine.  ONly sliught niggle is that at least one artist is duplicated in the artist list with the albums for that artist divided between the two artist entries,  That I can live with.

So frustrating Apple is not fixing this Music problem in iOS6.

iOS 6 remote sees the music flawlessly and fast, but music is glacially slow and then shows a fraction of the albums! Go to library view and try search ... Sigh

I've been digging a little bit and my conclusions are as follow.

    1) This problem (in most cases) has nothing to do with your iTunes library sitting either on your Mac or PC. Attempts at recreating the .itl or .xml library files do nothing to resoolve this problem. If they were corrupt then your iTunes library views would also be displayed incorrectly.  You might think that it fixes the problem....but this 'fix' is pure coincidence.

    2) Logging in and out of Home Sharing is also a false cure because of what, I believe, is the fundamental underlying problem which resides in iOS.

The concept of albums does not exist in the iTunes library data files as far as I can see. The album listing is created 'on the fly' either by the iTunes software on the Mac or Music on iOS.  It does this by reading or downloading (I need to get a network sniffer and have a poke around a bit to determine exactly what happens) either the .itl or the .xml file.  As far as I can see there is no mechanism in the file structure to let the download mechanism know if the download has been successful or not and whether or not all the relevant data has arrived.   Most other programs I know have some over-arching mechanism to establish that a file has correctly been transferred and/or the program has a good defensive strategy to factor in the possibility of dropped data.

So if your connection isn't brilliant, then the iOS will try and assemble the album information based on the available data.  Sometimes it is all there, sometimes it isn't...which explains why solutions (1) and (2) might work one day and not the other.

    My two penn'orth.

    Interesting insight Roger.

From my experience, what you see on the IOS device is correct, consistently, until it gets corrupted.  And then it is corrupted permanently.  Until you do something to fix it - such as logging out of Home Sharing on the IOS and letting it rebuild all the indexes again.

So personally I don't think this is a network / incoming data corruption issue.  Something happens on the IOS device to mess up the indexes / views.  Interestingly the individual tracks are still accessible, it's just the album and artist views that are corrupted.

Of course then you also have the Search crashing bug.  Basically it's broken and Apple need to get its finger out and fix it.  Or drop the functionality.  Hopefully the former.
