we have 500 macs using ARD 3.4. we have been getting some random computers saying "Screen Sharing Available" in the current status. we are able to control & observe but not able to send any unix commands, copy or install packages.
tried removing ARD prefs to no avail.
all computers are using ARD 3.4 & 10.6.5.

p.s.
this was happening before updating to ARD 3.4.

thanks in advance

This just started happening here too. No rhyme nor reason to it. I have 3.4 and 3.3.2 clients out there and some of both work, some of both don't.

To add insult to injury, I just upgraded a 3.3.2 client to 3.4 to see if that helped (it hasn't on other machines so far) and now... it still says "3.3.2". Even after re-installing the 3.4 client again manually... it still says 3.3.2 and only 'screen sharing available". I've restarted, updated, etc. And it still is identified as 3.3.2

So far, I don't believe it's network related, but I'm going to trace that first before I go to Apple and whinge.

And after monkeying with this for about a week... it's working again after restarting the machine with the admin client on it (a reboot hadn't worked before).

We had the same problem. After various attempt, what we did, is as follows:

    1. Go to 'Sharing' in 'System Preferences'

    2. Click on 'Remote Login'

    3. You can find the message 'To log in to this computer remotely, type "ssh user_name@computer_ip_address"

    4. Delete the computer from the ARD Admin list

    5. Re-add the computer through the IP showing in step 3 above

    Solved immediately.

Thanks a million Hikmat19. I was pulling my hair out trying to get off of Screen Sharing in ARD. It's it happens to clients just out of the blue. I have like 30 clients and it happened to two of them for no reason at all, but your 5 steps made the screen sharing go away. Awesome. Except, I did have to do one additional step to make it work. After deleting the computer in ARD from the "All Computers" list, I had to quit ARD, restart ARD, then re-add the client to the list. Thanks again!!!!

Hey, I just want to add something. Because I had to do this again to another machine and there is an additional step I had to take. On the client machine (first time I had this problem with a Lion machine), I had to go into the Network pane, go to advance and renew the DHCP. And if that does not do the trick, I found some luck with going into the Sharing pane and changing the Computer Name. If you do not want to change it, you can still click Edit... and delete the last letter of the name and re-add it, then click OK to verify your change. I know, it sounds weird but these are my little tricks that I have tried myself, but just not of certain what little trick actually got rid of the Screen Sharing in ARD. Very frustrating, but I am a happy Mac user now!!!!!
