Jan 9, 2013 11:14 AM in response to timjusa1by Kappy,See if one of these has any help:
About AirPlay and Airplay Mirroring
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). For non-qualifying Macs you can try using Air Parrot.

Thanks to the $15 Beamer, AirPlay streaming is still possible on Macs that do not support Airplay and mirroring.

Jan 28, 2013 10:59 AM in response to timjusa1by TinyTunerz,I too have recently experienced the ability to either see my Apple TV. I've got all the compatible hardware and osftware versions installed. I have been able to use it in the past, but it stopped offering the Airplay icon on my iPhone 5 or iPad 2.
I also used to be able to use the Reflector application on my MacBook Air to stream the iPad and iPhone images for training presentations. I can no longer do it.
I also am unable to connect either my iPad 2 or iPhone 5 Apple TV Remote app to teh Apple TV.
Any ideas?

Feb 3, 2013 9:08 AM in response to timjusa1by Ian M H,Suddenly stopped working for me too - only had my Apple TV for 3 weeks and for the first two I could see it fine from my desktop Mac and my iPad 2, then a few days ago it 'disappeared'
Updated the Apple TV software after this and it still isn't working
Tried re-booting it and the other devices
Apple TV is definitely on the same wireless network; AirPlay is On; and it's perfectly happy to play YouTube/Flickr content from the internet, just won't play with the other machines
Baffled here

Feb 5, 2013 12:39 AM in response to timjusa1by Ian M H,I've managed to fix mine (thanks to reading another slightly related post)
I rebooted the router (the one device I hadn't thought to reboot) and hey presto, everything can now see the Apple TV
No idea why this would make any difference, seeing as all devices were able to use the wifi to get to the outside world

Feb 18, 2013 3:50 AM in response to Ian M Hby Ian M H,Minor update - I seem to have to reboot the router fairly regularly to get the Apple TV to be seen by other devices
It's a fix, but not really a desirable one

Feb 23, 2013 9:09 AM in response to timjusa1by Steven Hopstaken,I tried everthing, then finally tried rebooting the Modem and Router and that fixed it. I followed these steps, it's for an iPad but worked for my MacBook Air.

I have a stereo upstairs and that showed up as well, sweet.

Mar 28, 2013 10:02 AM in response to timjusa1by rjpritchard,Bizarrely, I have two apple TVs. One appears in itunes, the other doesn't.
Both appear to have access to internet and my itunes library. Baffled.

Apr 2, 2013 1:00 PM in response to rjpritchardby minardi,Let me guess, the one showing up in your iTunes is the first gen and the other one is 2nd or 3rd? The reason is the 2nd and 3rd don't have a hard drive, the first has one

Apr 2, 2013 1:01 PM in response to timjusa1by minardi,Not working for me. I have tried all the reboot steps w/o results. Apple?

Apr 2, 2013 1:11 PM in response to minardiby rjpritchard,Nope, both 3rd gen.

May 6, 2013 9:47 PM in response to timjusa1by Andre O,After much fiddling I'm seeing precisely the same issue.
Gen 3 Apple TV (connected to network by GB ethernet)
15" MBP Retina Display (2012 model) (connected to network by WiFi)
I've tried rebooting the Apple TV and my MBP and it doesn't help. BUT, reboot the router and it works perfectly.

May 7, 2013 9:06 PM in response to Andre Oby aellis1519,I found this fix from 2010 when someone upgraded their software and ended up loosing Airplay....sounded crazy but totally worked! My airplay icon is back, and working!!
On your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch, navigate to Settings > General > International > Language and change to a different language (e.g. if you are using English, switch to French). The device will go through a language switch/reset process, and your AirPlay icon should be restored.
Next navigate back to Settings > General > International > Language (translated into the new language, of course) and switch back to your original language.
