1 - if you are using the TC as your Time Machine backup then you can not use it as an external drive too - choose one or the other

2 - you must have the iPhoto library available to use iPhoto - you can have two libraries - a small one on your MBA and the main one on an external drive - if you do this iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  is a great help in manageing multiple libraries and moveing photos between them

    Hi,

    Thanks @larryHN

I too have just shifted my iphoto library to my hard-disk. Now I am a little bit nervous because won't this mean that time machine won't consider my iphoto library any more and so if I somehow lose the hard-disk then I lose all my new photos?

Is there any way to get time machine to continue to back up iphoto? - Like if I keep the hard disk logged in while time-machine is updating?

Or if the icloud a safe enough back up?

iCloud is not a backup for your iPhoto library

I too have just shifted my iphoto library to my hard-disk.

What hard disk? The internal one on your Mac? or and external hard drive?  In any case the Time Machine preferences determine what it backups up - check it and be sure that teh hard drive you are concerned about is being backed up

    Hi,

    Thanks for your response.

Sorry I meant an external hard drive.

Basically I have two external hard drives. One on which I have recently put my iphoto library and one on which my time machine backups happen.

Now what I am concerned about is that from now on, my time machine back ups will not contain my iphoto library since it is no longer on my internal hard drive.

So is there anyway to make time machine backup my iphoto library from this other external hard drive? If that's not an option - I guess I can simply make a copy somewhere else.

I feel rather stupid asking this but I am new here - Where is the option to select "This solved my question"

    Thank you very much

has details on using Time Machine with an external back up.
