I have a bunch of AVI format movies, shot with an old camera at 640 X 480. I thought that I could just drag them into iTunes to load onto my iPhone/iPad, but I guess not.

I've tried a few conversions through iMovie, but the quality is always degraded.

Is there a way to preserve the quality and keep the file to a similar size? Smaller file size would be OK, of course, but I'm not worried about the size, unless it balloons up to much bigger. The main thing is that I'd like to keep the quality.

So, for example, I have a 3 minute AVI video which is 320 MB. What format should I convert to, to preserve quality? Can it be done with iMovie? If not, what software can do this?

I also have Quicktime Player 7. Can I use this?

Thanks so much,

David
