Well.. I always say that if one company doesn't listen and respond to their users' requests, there's always another company that will. Whoever that company may be, why not give them your business?

I don't think that necessarily works. I have the view microsoft at least has the illusion of listening to their customers and try reasonably to give them what they want. Windows/office/etc simply became so bloated and unusable over time and particularly overly complex that it was buggy and unmaintainable (vista for example).

In the complete opposite direction, apple appears to listen to none of their customers (well, if they do, they won't admit it) and simply do what they (apple) fell like doing. Their products are designed with one specific theme and somewhat simplicity of design, seems easier overall but in other respects seems much harder to do (e.g. I have several finder windows open in different directories and drag drop various items into itunes, but I find I have to click the finder icon in the launcher, go to window menu and pick the directory I want to drag stuff from into itunes.... windows at least has the taskbar with a separate task for each window, making that a one click action).

The only reason apple appears to have succeeded in the past 10 years is due to the fact they created products never seen before (the ipod classic was the first, followed by the modern day smartphone). Both have become ubiquitous so if apple wants to continue to grow, they'll have to stop finagling what they have, breaking it in the process, and go back to innovating. Maybe find some new portable device niche and develop it.

I do not understand this. It makes no sense at all.

I can simply drag what I want from each window into iTunes.

It's not the drag/drop that is the problem... I also have no problems with that. It's the "finding" of the window I want, especially when the one I want is behind others (which also includes the overall managing the 10 or so windows I normally keep open). Unlike windows, there is no indication (as in the task bar in windows) that shows the window is open or not, let alone a single point of reference click button. If there are simpler ways to bring the window I want up to the foreground without losing focus of another window like itunes then I haven't been able to figure it out, but I did try to say it was the fact I have to 1) click the finder icon in the app launcher at the bottom, 2) go to the finder menu -> windows -> select the window I want and pray the window I'm trying to drag things into haven't become obscured by the two or three other finder windows I have open (I have one window open on a network share, another to my local drive artwork, etc and closing and reopening them then having to find the folder again is really a pain, thus keeping all them windows open)

Another example is the latest last.fm scrobbler app and its quirk of opening a new window that says "you just played some songs I didn't know about... do you want to scrobble them now?" and hides it UNDER the other window... again, no visual indication that other window is open... it took me almost an hour on os/x after upgrading it to figure out that this could happen with that version of the app while frantically trying to figure out why it "wasn't picking up those plays" when I had synced my ipod with itunes. Now I have to 1) make sure I hit the sync my ipod with itunes button (auto sync doesn't count because that does not trigger a last.fm scrobbler resync), 2) go to my scrobbler app then move the main window to the other side of the screen so the other window that just opened and decided to hide behind the first becomes visible.

maybe this would not be a problem with a dual 16000x2048 resolution display setup and I can tile them all, but I find window management to be a pain on the mac with a single monitor.

    Command Tab between windows.

Point the mouse at the window you want.

I guess I'm still not doing it right then... "cmd tab" between windows on my computer still only switches between the apps, not between the windows themselves of the apps.... and half the time the finder window I want is obscured by the other finder window I just finished using (e.g. one finder window has the mp3s I just ripped from my linux box and the other window has the artwork I just processed from the cd art).

The closest I came was to use the mission control, but it still groups the app windows too closely to really be able to tell which one is which in a two by three inch square.

    Thanks for your tip though.

I've never created an apple blog account until now.  I specifically got on here to concure with the author of this post.  The new itunes is very annoying to use.  All of the "new" features like the cloud feel like pop-ups to me.  I have to constantly change my settings back to how I like them every time I start up the program.  Do they want me to use their program "Their" way?  I sure feels that way...  That's why I got itunes in the first place, because I like the functionality and costumizability of it.  After intentionally changing back to a previous version of itunes, if I have to deal with incessant popups saying "Upgrade Now" than so be it!  At least until Apple gets their Shtuff together and fixes their new itunes.

I love how Apple erases my iTunes library and xml files every 3 days.  Sweet new feature.

I've a sneaky feeling that might be AVG... Check this post for a repair strategy.

Yeah, thanks.  Read through a bunch of these threads and I'm now operating w/o AVG...Someone posted earlier that they thought they'd received an update from AVG and hasn't crashed yet, but I don't want to take the risk yet.  Without AVG, I haven't experiened any losses, so this may very well be the problem.

I too am so very disgusted with the new ITUNES. Did they just hire a bunch of ex-windows marketing folks and then gave them the keys to the kingdom. please reset the old itunes. IT *****!

Just download Songbird. It synchs your itunes library and playlists and it's completely customisable, so you can get an add on or skin that works much like the Itunes of old. Also, Songbird is just a much better, more modernized experience and has all kinds of really cool features, like downloading entire playlists from music blogs with one click instead of manually downloading each mp3 individually. Itunes is old balls; if they want to get all Microsoft on us, I say find something new.

I finally pulled the trigger. I'm back on 10.7 and staying until they either fix the issues or my ios upgrade won't work with it.

Wow, what abreath of fresh air. Things work like actual windows should, I can select my own preferences. I had already forgotten how much was lost in the update.
