It means that no disc burning hardware or software can be found on your Dell.

I can only suggest you ask Dell:

    http://en.community.dell.com/search/searchresults.aspx?q=disc+burner+or+software +not+found&ctypes=forum&groups=81&ps=100&wps=5

There are nearly 400 questions on the subject. Most are unanswered, and I could not find a single one that was "solved".

The reasons could range from broken hardware, an incorrect driver, a corrupt registry entry, an incomplete Windows installation... the list is nearly endless.

You can waste a significant part of your life tracking down problems like this, many of which have no solution at all. Or, you can get a Mac.

There's a few different things that can cause that particular error message.

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?

In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:

    dvdcd diagnostics.png

    ... and click "Next".

When you get through to the final screen:

... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here. (Use your Ctrl-V keyboard shortcut to paste.)
