Had a strange incident a week or so ago when my comp. went blank, don't know if that has anything to do with the fact that my battery has not been charging and has been depleting slowly even though I always have it plugged in...it was at 10% and I finally looked online to see if I could get any info...found this discussion group and for the first time read about battery calibrating (seems like I should have been told about this when I bought the ibook)

so, I unplug it and let the battery go to 0% hoping I can do this calibrating thing, let it fall asleep and then plug it in and cross my fingers.....well...no such luck the battery won't budge from 0%

Question....is my battery dead? Is there anything I can do to revive it? must I get a new one? if so can I do this myself or does it have to go into the shop?

Would love to hear any suggestions (my ibook is 1 and a half yr old)
thanks

chances are...you might need a new battery, since its wont charge it at all, you cant exactly calibrate the battery (use the battery til it dies and charge it up to 100%)

you can try resetting the PMU (power management unit) by removing AC adapter and the battery and holding the power button for 5 seconds

and yes you can remove the battery yourself, if you flip it over theres a latch big enough to fit a dime and u would have to turn it

does the red light illuminate on your plug when you have the power adapter connecter? I had the issue where the charger was connected and power the machine, but not charge the battery - so it slowly depleated the battery- they replaced my machine.

My MBP stopped charging the other day. Light on connector was green and battery showed 0% charge (the MBP had discharged slowly while sleeping during a holiday period). Reset the PMU to no avail. Talked to AppleCare yesterday, received a new battery today and it works like a charm. So it seems batteries can die young and suddenly. Battery life was absolutely normal before it died
