Feb 9, 2013 7:03 AM in response to stumblewartby AnaMusic,This usually happens if the phone has been Hacked / Jailbroken / Modified...
Unauthorized modification of iOS
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3743
If this is the case...You will need to look elsewhere

Feb 9, 2013 7:07 AM in response to stumblewartby Lawrence Finch,There are 4 possible causes of this error:
- The activation server really IS unavailable. Rare, but it happens. Usually fixed within minutes.
- Your antivirus or firewall (or your router's firewall) is blocking access to the URL gs.apple.com on ports 80 and 443.
- Your phone is jailbroken.
- Your phone isn't jailbroken, but the computer you are connected to during the restore or update was used to hack or jailbreak some other iOS device, and its network database was corrupted in the process.

Apr 29, 2013 7:02 AM in response to stumblewartby Cprather,My phone has not been jail broke. I plugged it in to ITunes simply to back it up , like Apple tells you to do, and it went into Restore mode and erased all of my info, then proceeded into the activiate mode. That was a week ago today and still after numerous calls to At&T and Apple then a trip to .my local AT&T, I drove an hour and a half to the nearest Apple store and 3 hours later I walked out with a still locked up phone. Oh but they did offer to sell me a new one...NOT!!

May 9, 2013 2:38 PM in response to carlskiiiby Lawrence Finch,You can try a DFU Restore (google for it). Depending on how it was jailbroken this may resolve the problem by unjailbreaking it. However, if the hack included modifying the baseband this won't work. The other risk is that the phone was locked to a carrier. A DFU restore will re-lock it to the original carrier.

May 25, 2013 6:37 AM in response to arantisiby Lawrence Finch,It means that your phone is locked to a carrier, and the SIM card is not from the carrier the phone is locked to.
