No sound on IPad

Right in the middle of playing a card game, my husband lost all sound on one IPad.  I checked all of the obvious things like the volume switch and the settings for the game. Everything looked ok. Then I noticed there was no sound for anything else, I.e., videos in my emails.  I checked the general settings for the IPad and the sound.  Nothing muted.  I even clicked the home button twice and found the volume button in the left corner.  Nothing is muted and the volume switch is on high.  I turned the IPad off and back on.  No sound.  HELP please.

    Are you sure that system sounds aren't muted?

     

     

    If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.

     

    System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.

     

    Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.

    If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.

     

    If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.

     

    If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.

    If that does not turn out to be the problem, Reboot the iPad.

     

    Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

    Do you have sound in the music app? Can you hear songs playing?

    I also have the same problem after I updated my ipad3 to ios6.1.3, I lost the sound in my iPad all apps, music & even Siri .... I have tried all suggestions and even erase all the contents of my iPad but still no sound unless I use earphones or speaker... Even cleaned my earphone dock...

    Overloading the iPad? I'm not sure that was the problem, but I don't know for sure. I see weird things on my iPad from time to time.

     

    I wanted to play a particular song in my music app yesterday and every time that I tried to play it, the music app would quit and then crash. I tried 5 or 6 times and then decided to delete the song and download it again. It was a song that I have played dozens of times without issue, one of the very few songs that I have bought from iTunes.

    For the life of me, I have no idea why it happened but it did.
