But what is so exciting about 6.1 is that you can have Siri make a movie reservation using Fandango! And when I do make a reservation, it will show up in all of my family's notification Centers and there's nothing anybody can do about it, ha ha ha ha

    How I solved this issue:

-Use separate Gmail accounts for those calendars that are not shared, and include those only on the devices of people using them. (You can export specific calendars from iCal and import them into Google Calendar)

-Use iCloud account for shared calendars.

If you do not add an account to a device, you will not get notifications. I know it is a bit cumbersome and I wonder why Apple hasn't fixed this, but it is a realtively simple workaround (thanks Google)...

Haha PERFECT description of the problem.

I feel like Apple should have thought about this on Day 1.  In any case, it's nice to know notification center prioritizes the birthday of someone I met 3 years ago (and haven't talked to since) over my class schedule, meetings, etc.  This issue used to upset me quite a bit.  I even went so far as to jailbreak my iPhone for this feature alone.  However, once you accept that the "Upcoming Events" feature in notification center just isn't a practical feature that exists (i.e. pretend it's not even an option or feature in iOS), you feel less frustrated.
