That printer is ancient! I would get a new printer.
I'm guessing you'll get basic print functionality and you should go ahead and try it. Ethernet and WiFi printers are almost always compatible. USB only connected printers have more issues that are dependent on the printer drivers.
Some folks with other routers had success printing from the computer directly to the the HP Laserjet, and then moving the printer to the USB port on the router and trying it again.

I have an HP laserjet 1320nw printer. Is it compatible with the airport extreme?

The printer was released back in 2004 - but it should be compatible with AirPrint Extreme over the wireless network, but not in the 5Ghz range. You need to configure the printer as stand alone wireless, add it to your SSID network.
