I want to reference my photos in iPhoto 11.  To do this, I understand that I should deselect "Importing: Copy items to the iPhoto Library" according to the information in Preferences copied below:

If you turn off this preference, be sure not to move the photos from the location from which they were imported. If you move the files, your iPhoto library won’t work correctly.

However, I have imported them to iPhoto from several sources.

Does this mean that I cannot (or should not) deselect  the "Importing/coping" option to reference my iPhotos to avoid fouling iPhoto up?

Thanks for your information and helpl

    1. Turning off that option and running a referenced library is not a good idea. It's more work for exactly no gain whatever, and is storing up issues for the future. See this

    for more.

    2. If you already have photos in iPhoto in the Managed format, then unchecking that option will not change anything for them, only for new imports. There is no way to change a Managed images to a Referenced ones without hacking the SQL database.

    3. Why do you want to change? Perhaps there's another way we can suggest to use.
