I hope the following has not been posted already...  If so, please ignore.

If you are as frustrated as I am with the lack of reliablity of iCloud, here is one thing I recently discovered...

My wife had worked on a document for a long time and, by default, it was saving on iCloud.  At some point, she relaunched Pages to continue working, selected File > Open and selected her document from the icloud window only to find out that the window then disappears and nothing opens.  No error message, nothing.  Repeated tries lead to the same result.  And since there appears to be no way to acces iCloud files from the finder, her document appeared to be have been vaporised by Apple self perceived genius.

After mucking around for a while and reading many threads on these boards trying to access this document, I discovered that when you have the the File Open window up, and the documents icons appear, you can drag that icon onto your desktop.  This will move the document from the iCloud black hole back onto your desktop.  Once there, it can be opened without problems.

Hope this helps someone.

PS:  Moral of the story, NEVER save anything on iCloud as your primary storage device.  Save a copy for sharing but always have the primary on a local drive.
