Q: Need Help with iBook G3 A1036

Hi I just bought an iBook G3 A1036 off of eBay and I ran into a big problem. When I start it up 1 I hear no Chime 2 I see no Apple logo and 3 it goes straight to a blank screen with a folder with a question mark that blinks into a Finder Face folder. The guy from eBay said it had no OS and I have no reninstall discs. I bought OSX 10.4 install discs off eBay too and one says MacBook Pro Install Disc and the other says Mac OSX Install disc 2. Can anyone help me, because I really need a computer for school.

You need to buy a retail Mac OS X 10.4 or earlier DVD and not a DVD which originally shipped with a Mac. Alternatively, phone AppleCare or the online Apple Store and ask if they still have that computer's original disks in stock.

An alternative is to install a free Linux (e.g. Ubuntu or Kubuntu) system for PPC. You will need 384MB RAM minimum.
