OS X 10.6.8 I did look into Mail Troubleshooting but wasn't able to find an example of my particualr problem. If I have to uninstall and reinstall Mail I'd like some direction. Will I lose all my previous emails if I uninstall? Is there a way to back up email or do I have to save all of them to the desktop in folders?

Keep looking and working with your ISP, the issue isn't in Mail. You may have a corrupt setting though, I'd recommend opening your Mail - Preferences and manually entering each setting. Even though they may look OK one may be corrupt.
Also Mail cannot be uninstalled it's part of OS X. You can however re-install OS X however that is not call for in your case and would be a very unwise thing to to.
