Q: my Mac has never been able to play DVDs it has mostly played CDs ok but it simply ejects my DVDs does anyone have any ideas why andif its a repair thats required how much approx am I looking at?

    The optical drive on your computer has two lasers.  One that reads CD's, the other that reads DVD's.  It is entirely possible that one laser is working while the other is not, which sounds like may be the case here. 

     

    You would get your best estimates for fixing this issue from your local apple store or authorized repair centre.   Give them a call, and they should be able to give you an estimate.
