Q: Notes wont sync between Iphone and Mac on Mountain Lion

I am not sure how to get my notes to sync between my iphone and mac on Mountain Lion.  Reminds works fine but when i went to look at notes I noticed that on my iphone under iCloud i didn't have notes turned on.  So when i turned it on it said something about needing to create a @me address so i created one but now my notes are synched.  Am I  missing something?

Go to the Apple Menu in the upper-left corner, choose "About this Mac". A window will appear where it will give a version number like 10.8.3.

If the number starts 10.8 then you're using Mountain Lion.

If the number starts 10.7 then you're using Lion.

Ok, I'm using Moutain Lion - so how does one transfer Notes from iPhone to Macbook Air which uses Mountain Lion?

    Thanks

By definition, Notes are on the server, not your device. That's what this thread has been all about.

The notes (like everything else in iCloud) are not on your iPhone, they are on the iCloud server, so you would connect your Air to iCloud and look in Notes.

When posting a question like this, describe what you've already pursued in trying to resolve your issue.

The most obvious thing to check is that all your devices are using the same mail server for Notes.

And for iCloud usage, go to your Mac's System Preferences > iCloud and check that Notes is turned on. Likewise, on an iOS device, go into Settings > iCloud, and check for Notes being turned on.

Ok. I have gone to my MBA and iPhone and notes are turned on. What I see in my iPhone is a folder called iPhone which does not show up in my iCloud web page or Notes app on my MBA.

I am not sure what you mean by all dvices using the same mail server. Can you please explain this?

    They are the same account.

Sign out of iCloud, reboot and sign back in.

HI, I just upgraded to Mountain Lion. Ouaw!!! what a transition!

I would like to sync Notes between my iPhone and my Mac WITHOUT iCloud. (I don't have wireless at home)
After reading all this thread I still don't see a way to do THIS smoothly.

I just need to know that all the ideas/notes I add while on the go or while at home will eventually be MERGED/synced!

I don't mind copy/pasting all my notes one time, and I also don't mind setting up a special email account to email the Notes from my iPhone to my Mac.

I would really appreciate any advice on how exactly to execute the above things--or something else?

    Thank you!

I just fixed the Notes vs IMAP-problem at my system. Lucky shot, but I can sync Notes from iPhone to Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion back-and-forth via my IMAP mail server (which is a Mac Mini running Snow Leopard Server). (I don't use iCloud)

I shall describe what I 'switched on' at my server. Maybe it's of some help for some of you.

    My problem was:

Syncing notes from/to my iPhone and iPad worked 100% over my IMAP mail account with my MacMini SL Server. Fresh Notes always did show up in mail at my computers, until I upgraded my MBP to Mountain Lion. After this Notes came up empty and Notes kept asking for a password.

    What I did:

In Server Admin at my Mac Mini server, in the Mail settings, under Advanced there were two checkmarks at the IMAP/POP Authentication setting. Checked were: CRAM-MD5 and APOP (Pop only)

UNchecked were three other settings: Kerberos, Login and PLAIN...

I checked ALL three settings; tried Notes and it worked. Immediately showed all my notes from my iPhone and iPad; setting new notes and deleting notes back-and-forth worked too!

After this, I unchecked the settings one-by-one and the setting 'Login' was the one I needed to have checked to have notes working via IMAP.

So now Notes is running under Mountain Lion via IMAP (as I said I have iCloud switched off) with my Macbook Pro. My older Mac Pro is still at Snow Leopard (with the notes being part of Mail) and this is updating fine too.

Hope this helps for some of you. At least it's not a Mountain Lion bug, I guess...

This is absolutely a Mountain Lion bug, but thankfully has been fixed by Apple in 10.8.3, with no complicated procedures such as the one you described, required.

This is not just a Mountain Lion bug.  I am using both Lion and Mountain Lion to Back up existing Notes on one of my Macs.  But look at this, 13 pages of threads to get at YOUR NOTES and back them up.  We have to look into IMAP, read post after post, use scripting and none of it works.  I have spent 2 days on this, I see that others spent 2 weeks and there is no easy way to get notes from your IPhone to back up easily.  Now, I am losing notes on my Iphone so I want to back them up.   Apple's lack of any open source solutions or being user freindly in these types of matters is making me think twice for the first time in 5 years.   Can any engineer, technician, or corporate type give us the ability to get OUR NOTES?  I want to back up my notes not sync them.  I don't want to merge them.  I need to back them up.  ICloud don't help in this matter either.  Make you start to think eh?
