I have been noticing These blank files apearing recently. Plain Text,  Zero KB files In my main harddrive. I narrowed it down to my Pro Tools program. They generate each time I open Protools. Can anyone explain why and what this is? just worried it could potentialy be a bad thing?

Hi, doesn't sound like a good thing, are you saying they're at the top level/root of the drive?

Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.

You know I noticed they dont pop up when I do  a series of things...Like: open a file session in the documents file from interfnal HD. Im wondering if Its creating these files when i use files from external HD? Hmmm... I just noticed that if i have a couple of these zero KB plain text files in my trash bin they wont pop up in HD... could that be it?? OR... is it that I didnt boot my Mac at the same time with external drive?? Kinda starting to frustrtate me about now. Im emptying the trash right now so I'll keep experamenting and watching for these mystery files. OR are they now going somewhere else?? I opened the console like you advised me, but it looks like giberish to me dont know what to look for. never opened this console window before... UGH!!!! HELP!!

OK, strange that it's happening on an external drive!??

And Spotlight, (mdworker), & Preview are having trouble with a jpg.

Open Disk Utility & repair Disk on the externel drive... any change?

Just curious... Is this something I should be worried about? should I have a proffesional take a look at this?

    Hmmm,

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...

PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive

    Reboot, test again.

If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.

Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.

Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...
