Until Apple announces something, no one here will know what Apple plans.
There are several utility apps in the AppStore that seem to provide
the information you are after. I don't use any so I cannot recommend one.
Search the AppStore, read the descriptions and reviews (reviews are
important) and make a decision if any meet your needs.

While i agree that a stock activity monitor would be nice, it's not true that all phones are having a problem...there are 2 iPhone 5 and 1 iPhone 4 in my home and all have great battery life.

Sorry folks, I meant to say I know NOT all 4 & 5 have drain problem.. but some of us do. Sorry for confusion.
Thanks Meg sent in feedback. and will look up an App asap. Let you know here if any seem to do the job.

Okay review of Utilities Apps... Loked at 5 or 6 both free and $...
But HANDS DOWN with over 70% 5 stars and 25% more 4 stars is
Aeonika's ACT MONITOR.
So gonna try. It says you can actually CLOSE down apps/programs that are high usage
and watch gauge fall!
Well come back with feedback.

Don't hold your breath about it making any difference in battery life. Unless you have some sort of badly written app, almost no non-Apple apps actually run in the background.
Best of luck.

Agreed. The best thing you can really do is make sure you Force quit ALL open apps running in the background anytime you're not using them.
There is absolutely no point to that because, as I stated above, almost no apps are actually running in the background. You can do it if you want but the effect is largely placebo.

So that was the waste of a dollar.. DO NOT BUY ACT MONITOR..
Trying SYS ACTIVITY MANAGER...and got PLUS.. It does have manual! in ENGLISH
Supposed to be best at cleaning up memory. Don't know if it will help with battery usage..
but need some memory help too.

It seems all 4 and 5 phones have severe bettery drainage now ...
It's aliens, I've been trying to convince the proper authorities of this with no luck. When they get here, and the come often, they need power. They've found they can tap into our cell phones, suck battery & no one is the wiser.
That's why I keep my phone off at all times...about once a month I bring it out of its lead case & charge it in a lead container. So far, none of my battery power has been stolen...none.

FYI: running in the background means Apps that aren't closed using the multi-tasking menu. Some Apps require push notifications as well. (technically would still be considered as 'running in the background')
