May 27, 2012 4:29 PM in response to lbwangby OGELTHORPE,Did you swap the two RAM chips? One may be faulty. You can also run the Apple Hardware Test.
You may have to take it in for servicing.
Ciao.

May 27, 2012 4:42 PM in response to lbwangby OGELTHORPE,★HelpfulHold down the 'D' key when starting up the MBP. If that fails, dust off the original gray installation disks and look on the one with the Apple Hardware Test instructions and insert the disk and again hold down the 'D' key when starting.
If the RAM bay is damaged, the Apple store genius bar is the place to go.
Ciao.

Mar 20, 2013 5:39 PM in response to lbwangby Jayjelly2013,I'm having this same problem with my Mac. I even tried the hardware test and it didn't find any issues. I don't understand why it is suddenly empty. Which one is Bank 1 anyway?

Mar 21, 2013 2:52 AM in response to Jayjelly2013by OGELTHORPE,You should be able to identify it by inserting only one RAM chip and seeing which bay will work and which will not.
Ciao.

Apr 7, 2013 5:02 PM in response to Jayjelly2013by tsurjatin,I know why, you have to insert the chip in bank1, 45 degree up and make sure it does go into the slot then push it down until it fits the retainer.
I had same experience and wonder why until I found it is not correctly installed like mentioned above. I thought the connector was broken.... whewww

Apr 7, 2013 5:18 PM in response to Jayjelly2013by Csound1,As Oglethorpe says, test by inserting the same chip in each of the slots seqentially, then do the same with the other chip. Post back.

Aug 4, 2013 1:17 PM in response to lbwangby Freidy,I had the same problem and found the answer on macrumors. Slightly loosening the 4 bolts that are around the RAM slot by about 1 rotation did the trick for me. Here's the thread where I found the answer. I'm just reposting so that others can benefit from this info.

Apr 16, 2014 6:48 PM in response to lbwangby Specialized4,I made an account just to say that loosening the 4 screws around the ram slot worked!! bizarre but it worked.

Apr 16, 2014 7:02 PM in response to Freidyby Grant Bennet-Alder,That thread was about:
macbook pro unibody, mid 2009 (model 5,5)
and several users said loosening the 4 screws was a solid fix for these problems:
Disappearing RAM and sleep issues and
(1. Unavailable RAM, usually half and 2. not waking after opening lid, having to force reboot.)
