A while ago, I deleted a bunch of photos because they are being backed up to the cloud. I realize now I should have copied them to my PC first. In order to get them back it sounds like I need to do:
Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase All Content and Settings
Afterward, I will go through some basic setup steps and then I will be given a choice to restore from an iCloud backup. In one of the support articles, I read that you will be allowed to restore from your last 3 backups. Since the photos were deleted several months ago they won't be in the last 3 backups.
Will I have an option to find older backups? I'm not very comfortable with not being able to review the backup set before restoring it. I'm wondering if maybe I should just take the phone into the store and let one of the geniuses take care of this for me.
Apple states that it will retain your last 3 backups. Older backups are not retained in order to conserve space in your iCloud account.
You might check iTunes to see if an older backup may have been made on your computer. You can do this by opening iTunes on your computer, then going to Preferences>Devices and checking the Backups list for available backups. If you find one, you could restore to that, import the recovered photos to your computer, then restore to your last iCloud backup to recover your more recent data and settings again.
