    What is the Release button?

    If you running any third party utilities, that could be causing it. Go to System Preferences > Users and Groups > Startup Items and delete them using the minus button. Restart and test. You can always add them back with the button.

    If there are no third party utilities then

    Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences folder and trash this files:

    com.apple.finder.plist

    Then, restart, or log out and in again.

    (You may have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

    If it's that, it's generally caused by the user selecting "Graphite" in lieu of "Blue."

    Ta! Didn't know that.

    EDIT: Yup! Just switched to graphite, that did it.

    Still, I've never heard them called the Release Button before.

    I never did either but then I never heard of them being called jelly beans until a couple of years ago in a post

    Release = Close?

    It isn't clear to me either what you mean by "release button," but if it is the Eject button (or maybe the Delete button?) these things are not set with Finder preferences.

    Instead, right or option click on the button area (called the Toolbar in English versions of OS X) at the top of any Finder window. Select "Customize Toolbar..." (the last item on the popup menu) & follow the instructions to drag what you want onto or off of the toolbar.

    If you want to add the "Eject" button, go here and double click:

    That adds an eject menu item to the main menu, not a button to Finder toolbars. I don't know which the OP wants, but one of the two should get what he wants, assuming it is an on-screen eject item.

    BTW, about that last "device" in your screenshot ...
