I want to buy a Mac book air, but I need to know if I can be useing my work e mail (outlook) on it as well.
You would need to be running OS X Mountain Lion on both machines, and you could then activate the iCloud feature on both of them, which you could set to sync your emails across devices.
You need to clarify what you're trying to acheive. Outlook is an email program, not an email account.
What email system is in use at your work, I doubt that your work uses iCloud so what do they use.
