Jan 30, 2013 9:04 AM in response to myiphoneisgoldenby RJM,★HelpfulThis just happened to me too.
I applied the the recent iOS update on Monday night. I started having reception problems with my phone yesterday afternoon (on every call the reception was bad, but the other person heard me fine). I used some co workers phone at work, that are also on AT&T, and their recption was fine.
I did a backup and restore last night of the iOS update, that that fixed the recption problem. My phone was fine last night and today, reception, apps, internet on and off WiFi, iMessages, txt messages, etc.
Now, it just died a mintue ago. Phone was fully charged and nothing will bring it back to life.
Anyone else having this issue?
iPhone 5 with 8 GB
iPhone ringer was set to mute (with the orange showing)

Jan 30, 2013 9:06 AM in response to RJMby RJM,★HelpfulI was looking on Google, found something, tired it and it woked:
- Toggle the "silent button" above the volume rocker back and forth 2 times
- Press the home button and also the sleep button at the same time. the apple logo will appear right after.
All seems well now, but very strange.

Mar 25, 2013 9:29 PM in response to RJMby davidg2013,★HelpfulMy phone just died as well, it was working fine and I was using it normally and then it just was suddenly dead. No obvious reason and no response to normal actions. Luckily, this advice about holding the home and sleep buttons together (plus perhaps toggling the silent button helped which I also did) worked, though I had to wait a couple of seconds after letting go before seeing the Apple logo.
Boy was that scary! I had it in an Otter case, which I removed when trying to fix, perhaps some moisture was trapped by that. Also, had switched the silent on and off earlier today, so perhaps there is a problem there. I just hope it doesn't happen again.

Apr 9, 2013 11:21 AM in response to myiphoneisgoldenby agarwal_ashish07,★HelpfulMy phone just died as well,it was working fine and I was using it normally and then it just was suddenly dead .I got shocked that what happens to such highest value iphone, what must be the reason, not any I know from my side.I google it than come to a solution of toggling the silent button and other combinations suddenly it just switch on after wating couples of seconds I can see the Apple sign.Really that was the worst moment for me.
I dont know what was that but I really want Apple to seriously look into that issue,I want to thank RJM for finding out the solution.
Really not expecting this from iphone. Now i dont ever want to be a victim of that otherwise I will surely apply for the replacement as after warranty I can't afford its service charges.

Apr 16, 2013 7:08 AM in response to RJMby PanTRee,I lost my iphone5 to sudden death, and even could not try anything by myself as it have no open parts or things to do. Being busy in strict business routine and a sim which cant be supported by any other phone i thought of bearing some losses due to leads which would have been lost meanwhile.THX RJM for your valuable advice. It works....

May 30, 2013 2:19 AM in response to myiphoneisgoldenby averagebear007,Seconding the other people, the solution of toggling the ringer switch + holding the home and power buttons at the same time also worked for me! Although I had to let go of the buttons and then the Apple logo appeared...that was a super painful two seconds. The phone quickly powered up after that and everything worked as normal. I made a Genius Bar appointment before I found the way to fix this and even though it seems fine now I'm still planning to go in and ask them why the heck this happens. Thanks for helping me and others, RJM

May 30, 2013 5:45 AM in response to averagebear007by Lawrence Finch,★HelpfulThere is nothing mysterious here. This is a standard procedure documented in the manual to reboot the phone. Except you don't have to toggle the ringer switch. Just hold HOME and SLEEP at the same time until an Apple logo appears, which will take 10-20 seconds of holding.

Jun 1, 2013 4:43 PM in response to Lawrence Finchby averagebear007,The fix might not be so mysterious, but I would certainly like to know why I had to resort to it in the first place. Is it a software failure? Hardware? I feel super uncomfortable not knowing the cause as I have no way of knowing what will trigger it again.

Jun 1, 2013 4:47 PM in response to averagebear007by Lawrence Finch,★HelpfulYou mean you have NEVER had to reboot your computer? Never gotten a Blue Screen of Death in Windows, or a kernel panic in OS X or Linux? The iphone is a computer. The operating system can crash, just like it can with any other computer.
