I have put sticky notes on the dashboard and now they have disapeared. How do I get them back?

Triple-click the line below to select it:

    ~/Library/Preferences/widget-com.apple.widget.stickies.plist

Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select

    Services Reveal

from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with an item selected. Restore the selected item from a backup that precedes the unwanted change. Log out and log back in.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select

    Go Go to Folder...

from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Meaning that you couldn't do it, or you did it and it didn't work?

Let's break it down into steps. The first step is to select a line of text in your web browser or mail client. You do that by triple-clicking. Triple-clicking is like double-clicking, but you click three times quickly instead of two times. Can you do that?

If you don't have a backup, you can't restore the file. Without backups, you'll eventually lose all your data.
