I have a 3rd gen Apple tv, a really old Tv and a surround sound system.

My problem is this: I cannot get the audio to come through the sourround sound system when using apple tv.

I connected the surround sound system to the Apple Tv via an optical audio lead.

The Video and Audio play out the Tv just fine (via HDMI)

Note i cannot connect my surround sound system to the Tv - my Tv doesn't have an optical audio port

I have a feeling it's a tweek in the settings but can't seem to figure it out?

Thanks for your help!

The audio should be from both OA and HDMI the same.  Check your OA cable is working (red light on cable tip) and or another device in the sound system OA port.  I don't think it is a settings issue I think it is likely port or cable.  I find OA very temperamental and every time I move the sound bar I end up having to check the connection.
