Q: I'm a little confused...  not exactly sure about step 9. NO Transfer

I'm a little confused on this solution...

So I have tried this a few time now, with no (correct) final results.

I get everything set up through step 8, but then not exactly what step 9 is saying, or I'm doing something wrong, because nothing really happens when I try executing step 9.  I can't seem to get the data from my old Time Capsule one.

In one form I try, I get the spinning beachball while Finder is not responding for some time, but when it returns... Nothing has changed. And I still have no Time Machine data migrated to the new Time Capsule.

What am I missing???

I have tried this from Both my existing MBP (10.6.8) as well as from my new iMac (10.8.3)  Both with basically similar results.

using my original 1TB Timecapsule to a New 3TB Time Capsule

The instructions on Pondini's site will perhaps work better.

    See http://pondini.org/TM/18.html

The main point is to have both TC connected by ethernet.. and you can do this in complete isolation from the network if you don't already have ethernet connection.

For the isolated setup, the new TC should be in router mode.. and the old TC in bridge mode and plugged into it.

If it doesn't work, then the sparsebundle in the old TC could be damaged or corrupted.

Do you really need the old backups??

It is much easier to setup the old TC to a USB 1TB drive and do an archive of the contents. You will need to use the old Mac with 5.6 utility or earlier to do it. It will take a long long time if the 1TB is full but it can be done in complete isolation.. no traffic is on the network.

Start a new backup on the new TC. That is also better from a number of points of view.. especially recovery.
