Every so often my Outbox fills up with Emails I thought had been sent. They pile up because one of the Emails has a problem in some cases but other times it's a particular Email that is malfunctioning. Is there any way to fix this with one solution? Is there an Alert I can have when Email piles up in the Outbox? This last time all I did was drag the boxes around and they started to Send! What is going on?

You must be having problems with your SMTP server settings. Otherwise, you wouldn't even have an Outbox folder.

Can you expand on the "Otherwise, you wouldn't even have an Outbox folder."?

Normally, you don't have an Outbox folder. It only appears when something can't be sent. And, it will eventually self delete, after it's it been emptied.

OK, how do I make something in Automator or Growl that can notify me that there is something monkeying the wrench in the Outbox? I have emails stack up not being sent and my clients are wasting their time checking their sytems when it is my machines fault. The VooDoo that is Email is a pain! It used to be SCSI but that's gone and replaced with Email!

As I said, just the mere fact that you have an Outbox folder is an indicator that its contents haven't been sent. If they were sent, they would be in your Sent folder.

You need to see what is wrong with your SMTP server settings or find a new Mail provider.

When you send mail, you should see some activity in Mail Activity (Bottom left hand corner), otherwise your SMTP servers are off line or not responding.

Who is you mail service provider? Have you checked with them on this issue? Call their support line.

Every Service provider I have ever had from AT&T to Yahoo to (Local) Pacific Internet to GoDaddy which I use today has had SMTP problems at one time or another. I can't change everytime they screw up. Apple has to give me a way to KNOW that the Email was not sent. If Apple doesn't have a way then there has to be a way to hack something in to show me. I think a **** at GoDaddy shot my passwords but what could be the cause I have no idea. Rebuilt Disk Permissions (several times coming up with the same JavaScript Errors) and several restarts got the poop flowing again but what it was ??? - Not a clue. I need a notification that something is in the folder User/Library/Mail/V2(***?)/Mailboxes/Outbox.mbox has changed. Anyway to do that?

I find myself just repeating myself. Your notification is having an, "Outbox" folder. That's your indicator that you have mail that hasn't been sent.

One more time, if you have an Outbox folder, you have unsent mail. That's your indicator.

    Good luck.

Here is what I did. I put the Outbox in my Favorites, center screen and it shows parenthesis and a number if it contains any Emails not sent. I'll find something at OSXhints.com or something to get a Growl Notification. I may have a corrupt Mail Folder but that will have to wait.

My ISP has been impecable. Can't say the same about Gmail and Hotmail which are totally unreliable.

They have. It's called an OUTBOX. If it is visable, you have unsent Mail. My Mail program also tells me that an email can't be sent and to either try with a different server or to try later. This happens if the WiFi I am connected to drops out. Noone's fault.

There are always hacks, but I respect my system too much to just 'hack apps' willy nilly.

    Good Luck in your endeavours.
