I zapped my PRAM on my Mac Book OSX 10.5.8, and now cannot find many of my Safari bookmarks and Google Earth data base info.

Are these saved locally in some cache?  any ideas how to get them back or am I hosed?

Looked in Users/"me"/ library/ cache. . . all old info back in Nov 2012

    Hi Brian,

Is  there more than one boot volume? PRAM reset can change the Startup volume.

Is there more than one user account on it?

    "Try Disk Utility

    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.

    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)

*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*

    3. Click the First Aid tab.

    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.

    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.

(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

    Hello BDAqua,

thanks for all the detailed plan.  I will  run your "plan".

Yes there are two accounts on this Mac and I have two boot volumes.  I also have an install disc, all of them.

I think I will wait for your reply before running the plan above . . . Your solution may be even cleaner. . .

Are they there if you login to the other account?

Any chance your Home folder got renamed?

I may need detailed directions.  I do not understand.

If I log into the other account, I am not allowed to access the other account's data, right?  So, How could I "see"them?

NO, no chance the Home folder got re-named. . . if by HOME folder you mean my account / user NAME.

I am kind of lost here. . .

Oh, don't let me confuse you, at a distance here I was wondering if the 2nd account was one you made, or as happens if a Home folder gets renamed, even by accident, then another account gets created & things get mixed up.

    What size is this file?

    Users:YourUserName:Library:Safari:Bookmarks.plist

here is another odd thing.  Note above I lost most of my Google Earth data also.  I put up a similar discussion thread on GE Help. . . the only response I got there was that the My Places data is stored in a particular spot in a particular folder.  Neither of my Macs have either the folder or the file suggested.  They do state that such data is stored locally however, I cannot find any .kml file type hardly at all on either Mac and certainly not one with My Places.kml as they suggest is there.  However, when I close GE after using it and fail to save to "My Places" it pops up a dialog box saying I forgot to save and asks if I desire to save to the My Places folder!

Again, doing a search any either Mac shows up nothing like this for a folder or file!  YET!--> I can open and USE GE and save NEW data to "my places", close out GE, and then be able to FIND and use that data upon re-opening the app!  So, it is somewhere but it must be named something ELSE! Ha!  Weird.

If you're using Spotlight, it may be less than helpful.

    Get Find Any File...

    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/

Hold Option or alt key when selecting Find to Find All.

    Search for Name Contains...

    Places.kml
