system preferences - Keyboard - keyboard shortcuts allows creating key-combo's including ctrl-x etc for any item that has a menu title - like Cut, Copy, Paste
you can set them for 'all applications', or just one

hi andy. thank you.
so, after writing this out and finally having the brain space to try and solve this - and also imagining that i cannot change my windows shortcuts - - - - do you have any qualms about my simply changing the CMD - X and CMD - C and CMD - V to CTRL commands on both of my macs at this point?
this is a slightly longer reach on my keyboards but i am planning to work in CAD in windows a lot more now that i am set up over here and i am thinking that i need to get this resolved asap.
training myself to do this in mac os should be easy enough but i want to make sure this is a wise move...

long delay - no email of your post here
I also realise that you can use system preferences - Keyboard - modifier keys to make cmd = ctrl or vice versa
I'd surely ask/read elsewhere about altering windows, given the reach issue - but no qualms beyond confusion if switching/using other machines. You might soon find you switch layouts mentally, quite easily.

a ton of thanks for this. i have not been having much fun with this one and i've been alternately trying to research and/or work around it for quite awhile. i'll read the links and muddle forward.
