Q: Migration help please!

I have successfully completed a transfer of music and pictures from my old Windows Vista PC to my new iMac.  The information is now stored under an old Windows user name on my iMac, for which I am being asked for a password, which I have never used on my old PC.  Any advice?

iMac (27-inch, Late 2012), iOS 6.1.3

    Try accessing the files again.

Have done so - still no access

The files are showing as a blue folder icon on the desktop with a red minus sign in the bottom right hand corner.  Am still getting the same error message when trying to access - sorry

Select one of them in the Finder, choose Get Info from the File menu, and post back with the exact contents of the Ownership & Permissions section.

I says that I have no access

The name Iain has read and write access and everyone has no access.

Iain is the Windows ID from the old PC which appears to have transferred over with the files.  I do not have a password for this user ID.

    Thanks

    Run the following:

set the_path to quoted form of POSIX path of (choose folder)

set theUID to do shell script "echo $UID"

    do shell script "chown -R " & theUID & " " & the_path with administrator privileges

    do shell script "chmod -R u+rwX " & the_path

do shell script "chmod -RN " & the_path

    do shell script "chflags -R nouchg " & the_path

specifying the migrated folder. If it doesn't work, post back with the results of:

do shell script "ls -leo@ ~/Desktop/"

The folders are called Pictures, or Music, so when I put Pictures into the first line of your response, I get

Expected ",' but found end of line

Should the file name be in parentheses?  Should the file name be Users/Iain/Pictures? and should this be in parentheses?  Am starting to lose the will to transfer files........(as I am sure you are too)

Leave (choose folder) as is and run the script, or go back to the instructions to drag the migrated folder and press the Option key while you're doing it.

Thanks - have run the script as you suggest which brings up a dialog box for me to choose the folder from.  However, when I select Desktop to find the folders which I want to open, it asks for my Apple ID and password before closing.  Any advice?

Also, I am not sure what you mean by dragging the migrated folder and pressing the Option key - where am I to drag it to and what is the Option key?

After you provide the password, there won't be any results visible in the AppleScript Editor itself; instead, relaunch the Finder with:

    tell application "Finder" to quit

    delay 2

    tell application "Finder" to run

and check the folder again. If you can't get it to work on the folder on the desktop, run it on the item in the Users folder itself, and if you can successfully copy the files out, delete that account.
