If you still have weak signal when you are 3m from router with iOS 6.1.3, you still have H/W problem.

My previous iP5 dropped from 3 signal bars at 1m to 1 or no dignal bar at 2m from router. When I replaced with new iP5, signal bar increase to 1-2 bar at 4m with 6.0.x. When I upgraded to 6.1.2/3, signal bars improved to 2-3 bars at 4m. All my previous tests were done in my house and on  same locations. Tests were compare with iP4 and iPad with same iOS. All are basically with similar signal bars.

I think 6.1.3 did something to improve signal reception.

Since you already update to 6.1.3 yet still having poor signal bar, I think you still have H/W issue.

If you think is SW issue, you just have to wait for Apple to resolve it.

My iP4 and iP5 still have an issue with a particular old router after update to 6.1.3. My iP4 was ok with the router before update to 6.0. Hence I believe there is still bugs in 6.1.3.

    thx for the update CKFROMSG.

at 3M it is still strong.  another thing to add is that if i have for example my macbook air and my iphone 5 together in another room and turn on the wifi, the macbook air will show atleast a dozen or so connections in my neighborhood and my iphone 5 will only show one or two.

The iPad is designed to not show WiFi signals that are too weak for a reliable connection. That is normal. The Macbook Air shows all signals that it can detect regardless of strength.

JimHdk, thx for the info, i did not know that!  any suggestions on the iphone 5 wifi connection?  my wifes iphone 4s has a solid wifi connection no matter where it is in the house and has full strength everywhere unlike the iphone 5 which keeps fluctuating?

update.  just got back from the apple store.  they took one look at the wifi signal bars and saw that it was not connecting full strength even in their store.  immediately gave me a new one and so far so good.  hope i didn't jinx myself!

when i told him about the weak wifi signals i was getting on my iphone 5 he explained that in fact the iphone 5 is not set up to receive wifi signals from older routers and that they are optimized for the new routers.  however he saw that even in the apple store with their newer routers i was still getting a weak signal thus giving me a brand new one.

keeping my fingers crossed it keeps up!  thx for all your advice!

Not set up for older routers? You have GOT to be kidding. And when was Apple going to disclose this lazy idiocy?

    Guys,

    some important Questions:

    1. if the Wifi was working perfectly with my Iphone 6.0.X - and update to 6.1.2 / 6.1.3 can break it down?

    2. if it is a faulty hardware as Apple claims to me - is this means that thousands and thousands of people like most of us needs to replace huge amunt of iphone 5 units?

    3. now for the HW professionals here - is this WIFI Bug relates to this?

    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1460268

    4. should we expect SW Fix? iOS 6.1.4? iOS 7.x.x?

    5. or only a replacement will work because most of them will come with iOS 6.0.x??

    Thanks.

    OK, I'll take a shot:

    1. if the Wifi was working perfectly with my Iphone 6.0.X - and update to 6.1.2 / 6.1.3 can break it down?

Yes, an update can sometimes reveal a latent hardware problem or it could just be coincidental.

    2. if it is a faulty hardware as Apple claims to me - is this means that thousands and thousands of people like most of us needs to replace huge amunt of iphone 5 units?

I'm not sure where you get the thousands of thousands of people from. There are about 4100 posts in this thread. Many people with probems have posted multiple times and many posts (like this one) are not problem reports.

    3. now for the HW professionals here - is this WIFI Bug relates to this?

    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1460268

That thread, like much of the stuff on MacRumors, is worthless.

    4. should we expect SW Fix? iOS 6.1.4? iOS 7.x.x?

No one other than Apple would know that. Don't count on any software fix especially if you have time left on your warranty.

    5. or only a replacement will work because most of them will come with iOS 6.0.x??

If you have a hardware problem only a replacement will fix it.

    Dear JimHdk,

thank you for your quick response.

    Hi

I am traveling in Spain at the moment and found that I cannot connect my iphone 5 at any free wifi spot ..once I arrived at various friends homes I was not able to connect onto their routers either ..with their proper code of course.

First I thought I had been powdered with a dose of insanity..as I was always connecting my old 3GS on the same journey last year..

This year I was not able to connect the old 3GS nor the iphone 5......

The iphone 5 has got the latest update..so has the 3GS(version 6.1.2.(10B146)...could the update have anything to do with it?

I KNOW for sure that I connected to the exact same router last year ..once it was set up it connected the mom I got through the door!

This year(a week later and utterly frustrated) I found ONE router I can connect the iphone 5 to but it always takes yonks, needs me checking the network connection and ticking the router again, until it actually connects ..whilst the 3GS connects much faster, on its own and stays connected too!

Just to add my three pennies for what it is worth...

Yeah, if you believe any of that. In any case, there is the possiblity that there is someting wrong with their network rather than their iPhone. I haven't had a WiFi problem with my iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1.3 on any WiFi network I've tried to connect to and that's a lot of networks.

    Another important fact:

my friend is having the same wifi problem with his iPhone 5.

the past two weeks he is traveling on business to Europe and USA.

It seems that on various networks abroad wifi is working properly.

after further investigation we understood that almost all of them are 5Ghz wifi networks and working properly.

the wifi problems occur only with 2.4Ghz wifi networks - exactly as it is with my case as all wifi networks I am using are 2.4Ghz.

maybe it is an issue of the dual wifi antenna inside the iPhone?

Well, if so, it would be a hardware problem on a particular iPhone. My IPhone has no problem on 2.4GHz or 5GHz networks.

So far the replacement phone I got yesterday is holding up in regards to the wifi.  I am assuming that the replacement phones have the hardware fix and are being swapped out if a customer takes the time to go into the store and inquiring about it. As I stated earlier when I first got to the apple store one of the sales floor people took his iPhone 5 out and we compared signal strength with the apple store and demo signals.  He immediately noticed that my signal was low and the bars were fluctuating as we compared.  He immediately referred me to tech support and made me an appointment for later that day.  At my appointment the tech guy saw my wifi signals fluctuating and immediately swapped my phone out for a replacement and immediately showed a difference and gave me full bars which was the complete opposite of what it was before.  Now was the replacement phone brand new or a refurb I don't know but it's working fine.  Good lick to all of you!
