I'm wondering if "new" is "old" in a matter of days or weeks with anyone.

I can get my iPhone5 to get remarkable speeds of 30Mbps after getting 1.5Mbps for a few days, by resetting the Network on it, or shutting off wifi and turning it back on. But after a few days, it's back to crap in the very same spot.

It seems, contrary to what you are saying JimHdk, that ALOT of people are actually having this problem. There are multiple thread/fourm topics on here and other sites discussing this WiFi, iPhone 5 problem. This discussion alone has over 803,000 views! If we were to say everyone who replied or posted in here only posted once (which we know is not actually true) and then said each poster viewed this discussion 10x, this discussion should have no more than 42,000 views, but it has FAR more than that. And I won't even tally the other discussions here on Apple and other sites talking about this exact issue. It exists, and whether it is the end users' network setups that are causing what seems to be a big problem for a lot of iPhone 5 users, or hardware/software problems in the iPhone 5 itself doesn't matter, because the blame should still rest on the iP5/Apple to fix it.

My story is the same as most on here, but does include some small variations. I bought my iP5 in Feb 2013 to replace an iP4 (that was working flawlessly on all WiFi networks that I use on iOS6 btw). Right away I noticed super slow WiFI at my house with my iP5. I have Uverse on the home gateway router with the 18Mbps package...my iP5 was getting 1-5Mbps, and sometimes no connection at all. At work where we have around 8Mbps over WiFi (using my iP4 as a baseline here) I was getting a 1-2Mbps on dowlnoad speed. BUT, the DNS trick actually worked for the most part.

I just changed the DNS to either 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.8.4 (or one other one with crazier numbers I dont remember off hand) and my speeds and signal strength pretty much returned to normal...until this weekend.

Now, regardless of the DNS I put in, my iP5 is getting spotty/random connection speeds (if it gets a connection at all that is). At home for a few hours I can get anywhere from 1-5Mbps but than out of no where it returns to the normal 15-18Mbps (using Speedtest.net app to test my speeds btw). At work, same deal. Either super reduced speeds or no conncetion at all.

Now what? Waste my time getting a 1st, 2nd, 3rd replacement only to expierence the same problems again as myriad of others have posted on here...or make the dreaded swith to some crap Android of some kind (it wont be crap if I can get my WiFi speeds back).

Let me know what I should do.

    Exactly what I am saying:

The question then goes back to the main debate on here...is that a software problem or a hardware problem?

I would say software. Because if the hardware is faulty, you/me would not be able to get top notch speeds at all. Instead, we get the speeds we are supposed to get, then it drops down. Insanely annyoing.

Here are my feelings on the subject. I bought an iphone 5 in January 2013 in the U.S., he was OK and WIFI worked VERY WELL on iOS 6.0.2. Upon arriving in Brazil I had a hardware problem with the rear camera. The apple iphone exchanged for another. This second iphone 5 (received in replacement of the previous) already had a few connection problems. NOTHING SERIOUS, as my Iphone 4 also happened sometimes.

NOW THE BIG PROBLEM HAPPENED EVEN WHEN I upgraded to iOS 6.1.3. GOT to have problems connecting to WIFI in 5ghz. To connect 2.4Ghz networks needed to be less than 2 meters from the router.

Faced with this problem, I went to APPLE STORE switch the machine back on and the new iphone 5 came with iOS 6.0.2 installed. is the iso 6.0.2 since. AND I WILL NOT UPDATE UNTIL ONE VERSION IS RELEASED TO TREAT THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM OR AN IOS 7.

FOR ME, IS A SOFTWARE PROBLEM. Maybe a hardware problem for some, but not for ALL of US.

went to an apple store on sat 4-13, the apple tach checked my iphone wifi for like couple minutes and told me he cant find any problem but cant neither answer why only my iphone5 has short wifi range while all my other 4, 4s, 3gs has no problem...they don't want to admit something wrong with them, he refer me to call the apple care so the apple care tech can help me set up my router step by step, what a bull ****, i had tried to reset and try different routers, no password, wep , wpa ..none or them works...

I was in the same boat you were in.  I just got my iPhone 5 on Thursday April 11 and immediately notices when I got he the wifi issue.  After compulsively searching the Internet for answers, watching Youtube videos on how to fix it, papering on forums, and goon back to Verizon I finally went in to the apple store yesterday and apple to a tech guy who seemed to know what he was talking about and replaced my phone right than and there.  He indeed say it was a hardware issue this giving me a different phone.   I guess what I am trying to say is to not take no for an answer and go back to the apple store and see if you get another person to help you.  What I did was compare iPhone 5's with that of an apple store employee as well as the demo models.   They could not dispute the facts as it was right on front of them and they saw it with their own eyes. And since he apple stores are running the new updates routers and the fact that I was still getting less than full strength they gave me the new phone!  Good luck!

Wow look at what we got : Apple just initiated a replacement program for the Apple TV 3rd gen :

Apple has determined that a very small number of Apple TV (3rd generation) products might experience one of these Wi-Fi related connectivity issues:

    Cannot locate network

    Unable to join network

    Dropped or intermittent connection.

What about the iPhone 5, Apple ?? It's their flagship phone and they are still not able to pinpoint the issue or initiate a replacement for it ? Really disappointed..

guess iphone 5's are not as important to demand a fix!

As much as it's going to kill me, I'm planning on returning my iPhone 5 to Verizon on Saturday. Our beloved Apple has turned to crapple ladies and genetlemen. It was bound to happen at some point. Hopefully the 5S is of better quality. The 5 just has too many issues.

Already went back to my Samsung Galaxy s2 which wifi is working perfectly even on my backyard at my home.

    another important issue to note:

it seems that our iPhone 5 wifi chip / SW is holding a wifi reception limiter mechanism.

my Samsung shows me the wifi signal reception in %.

Anything less than 70%-80% from the place I am trying to connect to my wifi network -

    samsung galaxy s2 connects perfectly

iphone 5 refuses - can't connect to network xxx message

    anyone?

    thanks

    Guys,

this is weird but please do try the following:

    1. define your wifi network to use Auto - Proxy

    2. define the proxy server address as http://www.apple.com/library/test/success.html

    Please test and update.

    thank you.

A bit too early to conclude, but that proxy has sped things up quite nicely for me.

I do Agree ... it seems it is improving something..

    1. i've removed my Silicon black case

    2. i've disabled the 3G mobile Data while i am on Wifi

    3. i've defined the Auto Proxy Apple address as defined above

it seems that wifi is working better - but still low weak wifi signal reception exists.

Hi guys I have the same problem with my iphone 5, I can see the connections but I can't connect , only if I near the router(2 meter) , but it *****!, with my iphone 4s I could connect easily(6.0.2).

I'm from Peru, my uncle gave me the iphone 5 (6.1.2) locked by AT&T(I unlocked it by IMEI on a webpage) and had the problem that I mentioned, I updated to 6.1.3 and it was the same.

I check the warranty on the page:https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do

and says: Repairs and Service Coverage: Active (limits apply)

Your product is covered for eligible hardware repairs and service under AppleCare+.

Estimated Expiration Date: November 14, 2014

My friend will going to USA on the next month, my question is , if my friend arrive the iphone to any apple store, could they change my iphone 5? it will be locked and I will have to unlock again or it will be unlocked?

I really appreciate your answers! Thanks
