Q: how do I add songs to my Iphone with the new itunes

I have a windows PC, a first generation Ipad, an IPOD and an Iphone. Since the new itunes was installed I now cannot add songs to my devices. I watched the tutorial and it says that there should be a plus sign for you to add music to your iphone, but that + sign doesn't appear, and I have re-installed it twice.

With iTunes 11 on a PC you can enable the left-hand sidebar that used to show on previous versions of iTunes via control-S. You should then be able to add content to your iPhone (and/or iPad and iPod) in a similar way to how you used to do it.

The Control-S did show my screen like it used to be. But when I try and drag any song over to my Iphone it has a circle with a red slash and doesn't move the songs

I also get the 'no entry' sign when I drag the album to the iPhone icon, or when I have the left side bar back.
Please can you advise?
