Q: Aperture 3 upgrade from Aperture 2 has stopped taking upgrades for over a year, what is the solution?

About 18 months ago, shortly after I upgraded my earlier version of Aperture, it stopped upgrading.  Don't use the software much so it was not a big deal.  So I figured I would buy a "new" aperture, but it will not allow me to because there is an existing version on my computers...

Would hate to delete the current installation that does work, albiet seriously out of date, than to spend money on a product that may hang and not install..  Any suggestions.

BTW My Aperture upgrade was given when I contacted Apple that I had only purchased Aperture about six weeks before Aperture 3 came out.  Apple was very good and sent me the update, but that is where the problems began...

IMac, Mac OS X (10.5.2), 4 gig ram, Thecus 5 Bay NAS 7.5T

What is the exact version number of Aperture you are currently running?

And is the MAxOS X version in your signature still current? If yes, then you may be seeing no Aperture upgrades, because you first would have to upgrade your MacOS X to a newer version.

To upgrade to Aperture 3.2.4 you would need at least MacOS X 10.6.8

To upgrade to Aperture 3.1.1 you would need at least MacOS X 10.5.8

To upgrade to Aperture 3.4 you would need at least MacOS X 10.7.5 or later.

You do not have to buy Aperture 3 again to be able to upgrade Aperture 3.

Software Update from the Apple menu should show you the updates. But it requires that Aperture is installed in the "Applications" folder and named simply "Aperture". Have you renamed it or moved it to a different folder? Then put it back into its proper place.

You may want to update your profile signature, so that we are not let to believe you are using an older system

Tried your suggestion to move Aperture to Applications folder form Photography folder in Applications, still same problem.  Tried to buy new got this message:

Aperture is already installed on this computer. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu to check for available updates.

When I try update software, I get the message "No Updates Available".

So I cannot update, because the installer cannot see the bloody program.  I cannot buy a new copy, because the store detects an installed Aperture!  This is theproblem I have been fighting for over a year!

I suspect I need to go into the lobrary and make a change of some kind, but I am in over my head at this poit...

Thanks for any assistance, this has me scratching my head...

Forgot to mention, I used Mac UPdate to get a copy of the update, it tells me "A copy of Apreture 3.0 or newer must be installed to update..."

    Can't update,

    Update has no updates

Store will not allow purchase due to installed Aperture 3

Update will not install, can't find program even if I have it running...

Aperture was in Photography folder in Applications, moved to Applications folder, still no luck..

    Appreciate the help...

    Hi Leonie,

You were right, I missed that Aperture had named the file Aperture 3

Once I renamed it to Aperture 3 the update software saw it and is currently doing th update!

    Thanks a million!

    You are welcome.

I am glad you could update now.  It would make no sense to pay again for a software you already paid for!
