What-are the views about using a stylus on an ipad?

My view is you should decide for yourself. The iPad wad not designed to require a stylus, but if you would prefer to use one, you are free to do so.

you tell us.  It's personal preference, therefore it's your decision.

Averagely? I find a lesser experience using a stylus. The screen responds best to a fingertip. However, there are times when I use one. Say my hands are messy, or I just put lotion on. Or, on my iPod Touch, I will use it playing games since a small screen and larger fingertip just aren't a good combo.

I'd suggest that you find a cheap one and experiment. Decide if you want to use it all the time before you invest money in a better one.

I use a stylus all the time for note taking at meetings and presentations.   I usually print rather than write, as printing seems to allow me to work faster without reducing to unintelligible squiggles.  Mainly I use NoteShelf for such free form notes, but Note Anytime (free) is also very good as is Notebook+.  A stylus, IMO, works much better for freehand notes, sketches&figures and such, versus using a finger (a finger just seems far less precise and feels very unnatural to me for writing, printing or making quick figures).

My favorite thus far is the Bamboo Solo with the "firm" tips.

    Thanks for that.
