I left my iPad in the pocket on the back of the seat in front of me on my flight from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur this morning.  I realised my error on boarding my connecting flight to Kuantan.  I notified the cabin crew on my second flight and also the ground staff when I arrived at Kuantan.  Unsurprisingly, my iPad has not been located or handed in to lost property.

My secretary and our travel agent are both chasing Malaysian Airlines but neither have had any luck so far.

My question is: should I erase all the data from my iPad?

It was left in flight mode so I cannot trace it.  My concern is that if someone does crack the lock code, which I understand is not that difficult for the professional iThief, I will no longer be able to trace my iPad if I erase all data.

I would appreciate any help and advice.

Many thanks in advance & kind regards.

To erase it the airplane mode would have to be turned off and the iPad would have to in range of of a cellular or wifi network ..to erase it u have to have find iphone app installed on the iPad and it would have to be turned on unfortunately when u turn on the airplane mode it turns the wifi and cellular  network off. If u have the serial no. You should report it to the police for insurance purposes.

In the airplane mode it turns the cellular and wifi network off u would be unable to erase any data the best you can do is report it to the police for insurance purposes..u can only erase data if u have the find iphone app installed on your iPad ithe app has to be turned on,and the iPad has to be near a wifi cellular network..

Slight correction:  The Find facility has to be switched on in the iPad's settings, at Settings > iCloud > Find My iPad. No app is necessary,  The Find iPhone app's function is to be used on another iOS device to find the missing item. It is of no use on the missing item.

I would go ahead and wipe the iPad. I am sure you will sleep better if your data are not being used by someone.

    Ok, update.

My secretary phoned me yesterday morning; Malaysia Airlines had recovered my iPad and I was able to pick it up passing through Kuala Lumpur last night.

Problem solved, thanks for the replies.
