I recently got a new 15" MacBook Pro and which came with a clean in stall of Mountain Lion. I set up the new user and migrated my files over manually.

I use LiveCode for building apps and these apps will try to open a folder in the finder by passing a shell command to the OS. Oddly, this app/handler is failing on my machine but not on others.  Testing is really simple: if it works in the terminal it will work in LiveCode... so typically you go test all your shell calls in the terminal... so... the open command is failing as you can see in this terminal attempt to open my Documents folder.

Brahmanathaswami:~ Brahmanathaswami$ open "/Users/Brahmanathaswami/Documents"

LSOpenURLsWithRole() failed with error -10810 for the file /Users/Brahmanathaswami/Documents.

Another symptom I believe is related: I can option click on a dock icon for a folder e.g. downloads and the menu item pops up

Open "Downloads"

but if I choose that,  it fails, silently, folder does not open and no error msg reported. I suspect if I were to tail some system log, I would see the same error.

I downloaded and ran the 10.8.3 combo update.I was told by our enterprise tech support which is currently stumped by this problem... that the combo update this "touches more files" and repaired permissions (no wrong permissions were found after the update) But I still get that error.

If I act as the super user

Brahmanathaswami:~ Brahmanathaswami$ sudo open "/Users/Brahmanathaswami/Documents"

Password: ******

then it works!

But I need this to work without having to use sudo.
