Q: Notes duplicate themselves,How to stop this?

My elderly uncle is new to Mountain Lion- has new iMac,

He discovered NOTES and wants to use as reminders to himsell

Problem. He creates a Note . The first line of his note correctly becomes the title of the note showing up in the list of notes on the hand side of the screen

He tabs to the next line, starts to type, and Notes application duplicates tne note so that sidebar list of notes now shows two identical notes

He tabs to another line on the  first note and  suddenly notes duplicates again

So if he types 10 lines in his original note, he finds he has ten copies of the same note

How does he fix this?

Spontaneous note duplication is my problem, too, except that the duplication occurs multiple times as a note is typed, no tabbing involved.  By the time I have added one or two lines to a note there may be a half dozen duplicate notes, each being the image of its immediate predecessor, that is, with just a few characters added.  No iCloud or server involved.  What to do?

Hey Linc, Barbara and "Poodle" ,  I too have "poodles Problem" Nothing to do with cloud or other devices Notes just auto-generates (duplicates) a new note after each keystroke right in the middle of typing the note. The result is a slew of "new notes" made up of bits and peices of the note you wanted to write.

To be honest I have up until today used notes primarily ONE WAY from the iPad and iPhone TO the main Mac. so have just recieved and not created notes on the main Mac. So I did not see this before.

notes, notes and more notes.pngJust a "side note": When "delete" is artfully (and slowly applied) the results in the notes column are  strangely beautiful but alas, not noteworthy.  (maybe I have discoverd the new Emoticon!) see red circle above.

    Barbara, Poodle and Linc,

An update to "Old Poodle Syndrome" (OPS)

Which is the application "NOTES" on a local Mac spontaneously generating a brand new NOTE on each key stroke, while attempting to make a note.

Bad news: OPS  still does occur.

Good news: OPS does NOT  occur when working on (editing) an existing NOTE.

Work around: Create a new note, you can just about complete your title line, before the new copy is created.

Wait for NOTES to create a copy in the side bar.

Go to the side bar where old notes are listed, of the two "new" notes, select the original note and delete it.

Select the remaing (second) copy of the note and you should be able to continue with your note, without indiscriminate spawning.

So you can employ and enjoy the goodness of NOTES..

    Let me know …

    John

PS Linc, my iMac NOTES does not broadcast TO my iPhone or iPad, but it does get NOTES from them.

PPS calendar works, and Reminders probably works (still looking)…but this will be in another thread.

I have the same problem and the dozens of duplicates also appear in the mac.com email in date order instead of creation order.  Forever deleting them.  For some reason Apple only patrols these "Support" pages to remove critical posts, yet never addresses the issues like this.  Won't be long before this one is gone.
