I was never able to get the Podcasts app to show any of this info. The old Music app does show it properly. I believe this info is part of the lyrics/notes metadata and the Podcasts app (for some reason) appears to ignore that information completely.
From what I can tell, the fix has to come from Apple actually creating a solid Podcasts app instead of the kludge they put out onto the store.

I am experiencing this problem too. I'm very surprised there aren't more postings critical of this issue. Podcasts without a description is a big loss. Very annoyed at Apple for removing this very basic component.

I'm experiencing the same problem.
I've seen other posts that say if you click on the little blue arrow on the right side, you should see the description/show notes, but that's not working for me.
It's making those language podcasts with the attached transcription kind of useless (well, not after I change them on my computer to Audiobooks, but it's still silly).
Note: IF you're talking about the Description for the Podcast itself, i.e. the whole series rather than that specific episode, you can still see that: go to My Podcasts, choose the podcast, press "Settings", and then you'll see the Description. But I don't think that's the problem you're talking about.

Hi - here's how I solved this issue. Within each podcast, I clicked on "subscribe". Then, I received a description for each podcast by clicking the blue arrow on the right.
Please note: if you manage your podcasts "manually" this creates a separate issue. You will be forced to manage your podcasts via your iPhone and iTunes on your computer.

Oh, I see - so if I actually subscribe to the Podcast within the Podcasts app, then the Description will appear. But if I subscribe on iTunes, and then sync over to the iPhone, the Description will not appear. Thanks for clarifying that.
This leads to weird behavior: I had one podcast episode already on the iPhone, with no description shown. Then I subscribed to the podcast, through the iPhone. I downloaded two new episodes. Now I could, by clicking/pressing the blue arrow, see the Description for all three episodes - the old one and the two new ones. But then, after I turned off subscribe, I could still see the description for the two new episodes, but not the old one.
Sigh. This worked so much better when podcasts were part of the iTunes app. I listen to podcasts a lot on my computer, and on the iPhone Podcasts app., and at the syncing between the two just isn't good enough.
