Very new to Pages, quite experienced with MS Publisher but proud owner of a new iMac

In Pages when I try to set up a new document template from a blank page the grey margin line doesn’t change when I set new document margins via Inspector. The grey line is set at 0.5 cm and stays at that regardless of any measurements that I set. I’ve tried ridiculous settings such as 5cm all round but the layout doesn’t change. What am I doing wrong?

The grey margin line you when you have Show Layout on is the margin where the printer can't print. So you are not doing anything wrong.

Download the Pages User Guide from your Pages Help menu. It has tons of information.

Are you using the Document Margins in the Documents Inspector?

The Layout margins in the Layout inspector work inside those of the Document margins.

    Hi Ken,

That sounds to be what I'm looking for but I can't find Layout Inspector!

Inspector > Layout is second Tab from the left:

You have the information in the Pages User Guide. The guide is searchable.

    Hi Ken,

I feel now that the best way is to set up a template in word processor format to use when creating the document. Does this sound right?

In either Word Processor or Page Layout documents, you can let your creative spirit lead you. You are in charge.

Thanks. I'm just about there and making great headway!

    Go Ken!

    Regards,

    Ian.
